Genshin Impact: A Guide to the Unofficial History of Teyvat — Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Did You Know? Mora Was “Kex-ed” to Death

Lovia practically burst through the door of her dilapidated shack, the wooden frame rattling in protest against its hinges. She didn’t care. She bypassed her meager belongings and dove straight for the rickety table, her fingers trembling with impatience as she snatched up her quill and a blank notebook.

With a stable temporary residence and a reliable food source finally secured, her creative desires soared to unmatched heights. Her courage, fueled by a full stomach, had grown significantly bolder.

“The first piece was just a test, and the market response seems fantastic.” She stroked her chin, her sapphire-blue eyes sparkling with a dangerous mix of cunning and sheer excitement. “For the next one, let’s aim for something even more explosive. I’ll directly shatter the foundations of Morax’s divine persona!”

‘I’ll write…’she plotted silently, a wicked grin spreading across her face.’I’ll write that Morax is actually two people. One named Mora, and one named Kex. And then Mora was completely “Kex-ed” to death by Kex…’

The inspiration hadn’t come from nowhere. Not long ago, Lovia had wandered down to the bustling Chihu Rock market, asking indirect questions to the local merchants. Through careful eavesdropping, she learned that the Geo Archon had supposedly passed away during the Rite of Descension several years ago.

Armed with that knowledge, she had sprinted straight to Wanmin Restaurant to ask Xiangling if she knew the legendary Traveler. To ensure cooperation, Lovia had fabricated a flawless excuse. She hauled a massive bag of fresh Jueyun Chilies into the kitchen, claiming they were a commissioned gift from “a blonde sister and a white-haired little floating elf.”

Xiangling had wiped her hands on her apron, looking thoroughly confused. “A blonde sister? You must have seen wrong! It’s definitely a brother!”

So… the Traveler in this world was Aether. The Abyss Order hadn’t gone off-course this time; they had successfully pulled Lumine as the Princess.

‘That’s pretty good, hahaha,’ Lovia had thought, mentally fist-pumping.

From the looks of it, the exact point in time she had transmigrated to was several years after Aether finished his journey through Liyue. She estimated he had probably finished visiting the other nations across the sea as well, though she couldn’t deduce anything more specific without drawing suspicion.

But knowing this was enough. Understanding the current timeline would perfectly anchor her fanfictions.

Heehee. Now she was going to write something truly unhinged.

Since she had committed to writing “real” unofficial history, she naturally couldn’t just churn out The Travels of Shi Po Chen · Part Two like the Bookstore Owner expected. That was too mundane.

Lovia leaned over the broken table, the wood creaking under her weight as she fell into deep thought.

The Travels of Shi Po Chen simply wasn’t enough to make a passing customer’s pupils dilate at first glance. It lacked that visceral, irresistible hook that forced people to violently throw their Mora onto the counter just to see what kind of madness was printed inside.

“I have to change the name…” She bit the feathered end of her quill, her face radiating an absolute intent to cause chaos. “It needs to be direct. Explosive. It has to perfectly summarize my world-shattering core setting!”

She tapped the pen against her cheek, crossed out the original title with a few harsh scratches of ink, and scribbled down several new options in the margins:

1. Tears! The Reason for the Archon’s Thousand-Year Bachelorhood Exposed: His Deceased Wife Was Actually Mora Herself?!

2. Shocking! Such an Infatuated Tragedy Hidden Behind the Mora Currency?!

3. The Name of Morax Actually Conceals Twin Deities and a Life-and-Death Contract!

4. Exclusive Deep Dive: The Truth Behind Why the Archon Doesn’t Like Carrying Money!

5. Collapse of the Mora System? The Geo Archon Is Actually Using Rocks to Counterfeit Mora!

6. Morax, But the No-Mora Version

7. Regarding the Matter of the Geo Archon Being a Synthesized God Who Caused His Wife’s Death

8. Archon’s Notes: My Currency Is All Rocks

Lovia rubbed her chin, her eyes darting between the chaotic list of titles.

“Some of these aren’t wild enough, and some are way too direct. I’ll easily get targeted by the Millelith if I’m not careful. The third and seventh ones are solid…” she muttered to the empty room. “The third one looks quite serious, while the seventh is beautifully abstract…”

Ultimately, she circled the seventh option: Regarding the Matter of the Geo Archon Being a Synthesized God Who Caused His Wife’s Death. It hinted at a romantic ship, carried a touch of modern light-novel abstraction, and promised a heavy dose of tragedy. It was the perfect bait to pique morbid curiosity.

“Perfect.” Lovia admired the new title, her chest puffing out with pride. “It will definitely catch eyes and leave plenty of suspense!”

Without wasting another second, she lowered her head and began drafting the manuscript. Her pen flew across the coarse paper, writing with reckless abandon as she poured out the bizarre, tragic lore of “Mora” and “Kex” brewing in her mind.

[Note: From this point onward, the fanfiction Lovia writes will only display the general story direction to the reader. The actual “readers” residing in Teyvat will see a much more detailed, fleshed-out version of the text, meaning some plot points they discuss later may not be explicitly shown below!]

[Book Title]: Regarding the Matter of the Geo Archon Being a Synthesized God Who Caused His Wife’s Death

[Author]: Li Xin

[Chapter One: The Twin Contract]

In the distant era when the Archon War swept through Teyvat, two powerful existences once stood side-by-side upon the bleeding land of Liyue.

One was Kex, the God who governed rock and soil. He was indestructible, possessing fierce and peerless strength—the very incarnation of bedrock and towering mountains. His will was like tempered steel, and he was renowned for his military exploits as he protected the land and the fragile mortals beneath his feet.

The other was Mora. Her divine authority was not meant for the brutality of combat, but for creation and measuring the value of all things. She could condense golden currency—Mora—from absolute nothingness. Every single coin contained pure divine power, acting as an absolute equivalent capable of being exchanged for all things in the world without hindrance. She was gentle and endlessly wise, the original prototype of prosperity and contract.

They were not only allies fighting back-to-back in the blood-soaked mud, but partners who loved each other deeply. Kex built a grand sanctuary for Mora out of unbreakable bedrock, while Mora brought order and glittering wealth to Kex’s barren realm. Their union was a match made in heaven.

However, the cruelty of the Archon War defied imagination.

In the chaos of warring Gods, the heavenly laws were heartless; only the final victor could survive to claim a seat among The Seven. Surrounded by enemies, they faced a desperate choice: either be devoured together by rival deities, or… merge into one. They had to condense all their strength and authority into a single entity to grasp a terrifyingly slim chance of survival.

But the absolute taboo of divine fusion lay in one cruel fact: a body could only house one core of consciousness.

“Kex, your strength is the foundation of our protection; it cannot disappear.” Mora held her partner’s bloodied hand, her smile warm yet agonizingly resolute. “As for my authority… if it can become the bedrock that the new ‘us’ leaves for this world, that will be enough.”

“No!” Kex roared, his voice cracking the very tectonic plates beneath them.

“Live on.” Mora’s voice was soft, yet it brooked no refusal. “Carry my strength, my name, and live on together. From now on, you are ‘Morax.’And you must remember for me what true’value’ really is.”

Golden dust drifted upward from Mora’s skin as she stepped forward, taking the initiative to embrace Kex. Her form dissolved into a flow of molten gold, merging bit by agonizing bit into Kex’s rocky body. Kex screamed in agony, tearing at the earth, but he could not stop his lover’s self-annihilation.

When the dust settled, only one God remained on the shattered battlefield.

He possessed the appearance and devastating Geo power of Kex, but he inherited the name of Mora and the divine authority to create currency.

He was Morax, the Geo Archon, known to later generations as Rex Lapis of Liyue.

But his core was Kex.

A soul that had violently lost its other half, forever immersed in a silent, suffocating grief.

[Chapter Two: The Counterfeit Coins of Rock]

The war finally ended.

Morax won the land of Liyue and ascended to become one of The Seven.

However, He soon discovered a chilling truth. Although the authority of creation remained within Him, He could no longer create the true Mora currency that flowed with golden divine power.

That specific authority was intrinsically bound to Mora’s unique consciousness and soul. With her passing, the true essence of creation had vanished forever.

The original, genuine Mora currency created by His lover was still in circulation, serving as the absolute foundation of Teyvat’s economic system. But erosion and mortal consumption were inevitable. The total amount of true currency was decreasing.

Kex—or rather, Morax—watched the glittering legacy left by His wife diminish day by day. A boundless panic and sorrow welled up in His hollow chest.

He could not let the last traces of her existence simply fade into nothingness.

So, He committed an devastating deception.

He used His overwhelming Geo divine power, taking the hardest, most flawless rocks in the world as His material, to perfectly and exquisitely replicate those true Mora coins. The weight, the shape, the brilliant color, and even the faint aura of divine power—which now originated from Himself—were all imitated to flawless perfection.

These “Rock Mora” were quietly flooded into the market, circulating smoothly alongside the genuine ones. The mortal world could not tell the difference and continued to accept them gladly. Liyue’s prosperity was maintained, and Teyvat’s economic system continued to function without a hitch.

But Morax Himself knew the bitter truth. These were merely “counterfeit coins”—cold, dead creations He used to desperately commemorate His deceased wife.

Every time He looked at a Mora coin, He didn’t see currency; He saw Mora’s gentle smile as she dissipated into gold dust.

Every time He touched Mora, He didn’t feel wealth; He felt the freezing, lifeless touch of rock, reminding Him of that eternal loss.

He gradually became unwilling to touch Mora at all, refusing to carry a single coin when walking among mortals. It wasn’t forgetfulness. The pain was simply too heavy to bear.

He lived exactly the way Mora had hoped He would—as the powerful Archon protecting Liyue. He even inherited her carefree nature of “never looking at prices and never carrying money,” a trait she had possessed out of pure innocence.

Only the true reason was known to no one.

“Kex, how are you going to live without me?” In His darkest memories, Mora had once joked with a teasing smile.

Now, He had given the world His answer: He lived on, existing in her image, but having forever lost the ability to create the true symbol of her life.

[Chapter Three: My Name Is Morax]

Thousands of years passed like flowing water, and the divine name of “Morax” resounded throughout every corner of Teyvat.

He was steady, majestic, and all-powerful.

He established unbreakable contracts, regulated global trade, and deeply embedded the concept of “Mora’s” value into the very soul of Liyue.

All of this was, perhaps, His deepest, most silent commemoration of Mora.

He was loving this world in her way.

He would stand alone on the highest peaks of Jueyun Karst, overlooking the prosperous harbor city built of rock and Mora. The golden sunset bathed the land in a warm glow, looking exactly like the radiant light when Mora dissipated into His arms all those centuries ago.

He would slowly reach out His hand, and a glittering golden Mora would condense at His fingertip—an ultimate Geo creation, flawless enough to pass for the real thing.

But He knew it was fake.

The real one, along with the woman who created it, had already been lost thousands of years ago. She had been personally… no, she had been witnessed by Him, melting into His own blood and bone, becoming nothing more than a name, a memory, and a jagged scar that would never heal.

“Mora…” He whispered softly to the empty air, as if calling out to that departed soul.

“…Kex,” He finally finished, speaking His own true name.

The wind wailed through the mountain peaks, sounding like a heavy sigh spanning a thousand years.

The Geo Archon Morax, even today, still protects Liyue. And still… He doesn’t have a single cent to his name.

(The End)

Lovia set her quill down, reading over the freshly dried ink. A sudden chill raced down her back.

“I’m not just courting death anymore. I’m dancing a flamboyant Gokuraku Jodo right on the edge of Liyue’s legal code…” she muttered under her breath. Beneath her cloak, the tip of her tail curled into a tight, anxious little circle.

Yet, the way the story balanced “serious nonsense” with a heavy, suffocating touch of tragic romanticism made even her own heart ache a little.

“It perfectly explains why Morax can’t make Mora and never carries money! It even gave him a dead lover persona to explain his melancholy! I really am a genius!” The anxiety vanished, instantly replaced by her usual shameless self-admiration. “Maybe the readers will like this angst even more?”

Following her usual routine, she carefully folded the manuscript. But this time, she didn’t rush out the door to deliver it immediately.

The more Lovia stared at the folded paper, the more satisfied she felt—but that lingering wariness toward the Millelith’s notoriously bland prison food crept back into her mind.

“This… does seem a bit too blunt,” she murmured, her sapphire-blue eyes blinking rapidly. “Even though the plot is explosive, it wouldn’t do me any good if the Bookstore Owner is too terrified to publish it, or worse, if I get arrested for spreading dangerous anti-Archon propaganda.”

She absolutely refused to let the stable, comfortable writing life she had just secured go down the drain so quickly.

“I need an alternative. Something a bit… more subtle?” She rubbed her chin, her tail-tip unconsciously sweeping back and forth across the dusty floorboards. “Yeah, exactly like how humans do it—put on a slightly more serious, respectable skin, but keep the filling inside the exact same flavor!”

No sooner said than done.

She grabbed another blank sheet of paper. This time, she weighed her vocabulary carefully, smoothing out the overt treason, but ensuring the core “world-shattering” tragedy didn’t change one bit.
