Chat Group Crossover: My System Simulates Infinite Anime Worlds — Chapter 7
Chapter 7: A Private Tutor and a Corrosive Power
The two of you didn’t linger in the classroom. Gathering your books, you continued your conversation as you walked out into the hallway.
You had to admit, you had a small, selfish motive. After just a brief exchange, it was clear that the girl before you was a true genius. You were in the market for a tutor, and the prospect of having such a beautiful one was, at the very least, pleasing to the eye. It brought back a fleeting memory of the teacher from your very first simulated world; whatever her other faults, she had been remarkably responsible.
After leaving the classroom, you followed MEI’s suggestion and made your way to the school library.
At this hour, the vast space was completely deserted, leaving only the two of you amidst the towering shelves. The silence was so deep that even a loud conversation would likely go unheard. After chatting for a little while longer, a sense of inadequacy began to creep in.
You realized your own reserves of knowledge were simply no match for the brilliant young woman in front of you. Deciding to be direct, you stated your purpose plainly: you wanted to learn from her.
Upon hearing your request, MEI accepted without hesitation, a faint, pleased smile gracing her lips as she officially became your tutor.
The teaching session progressed at a blistering pace. You found you could absorb and retain everything she taught after hearing it just once, often even deducing the next logical step before she explained it. Her explanations were clear, and your comprehension was instantaneous—a perfect match.
Time dissolved in the quiet intensity of your studies, until a sudden, ungraceful sound broke the spell. A low growl echoed in the stillness, and then another. Your stomachs were protesting in unison.
The sound made you both freeze. It was only then that you realized how absorbed you had become, and how close you were sitting. Your heads had been bent over the same textbook, shoulders nearly touching. To any outsider, you would have looked like an inseparable couple lost in your own world.
You glanced at each other, and in her wide, violet eyes, you saw a mirror of your own awkwardness.
Acting quickly, you stood up and cleared your throat twice, a clumsy attempt to dispel the charged atmosphere. “We should probably get something to eat. The cafeteria?”
MEI nodded gently, her face a lovely shade of crimson. For a girl who had likely never been this close to any boy besides her own father, the moment was clearly overwhelming.
You walked together to the cafeteria. The bell signaling the end of class had only just rung across campus, so for a precious few minutes, the two of you had the entire dining hall to yourselves.
You quickly discovered that the cafeteria at Chiba Academy was nothing short of luxurious. Gleaming food stations offered everything from Northern European cuisine to a rich selection of dishes from the land known in this world as Shenzhou.
Using your meal card, you loaded up a tray with a large bowl of fragrant braised pork, two crispy fried pork cutlets, and several side dishes, ensuring a balanced mix of meat and vegetables for proper nutrition.
As you were about to pay, MEI tugged sheepishly at your sleeve. With her face still flushed, she mumbled, “I… I forgot to bring my meal card.”
A faint smile touched your lips. You held up your own card. “No problem. It’s my treat. Don’t be a stranger.”
With both your meals secured, you found a quiet table in a corner and sat down face-to-face.
MEI’s eyes widened slightly as she took in the mountain of food on your tray. “Do boys normally eat this much?”
After swallowing a mouthful of rice and pork, you replied, “Not usually. I practice martial arts, so my energy consumption is a bit higher than average.”
“Oh,” she said, a flicker of understanding in her eyes. She didn’t press the matter further.
After you had both eaten your fill, you bought two bottles of water from a nearby vending machine and, by unspoken agreement, returned to the little library. Neither of you even considered going back to the classroom, and it seemed none of the teachers thought to send anyone looking for you. You remained there, lost in books and conversation, until the afternoon sun began to dip toward the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple.
Only then did the two of you return to the empty classroom, grab your respective schoolbags, and walk out of the academy’s grand gates together. You stood on the sidewalk and watched as MEI was whisked away in her family’s sleek, black luxury sedan.
Once she was gone, you headed straight for the nearest ATM. You inserted your bank card, entered the password, and stared at the balance: a nine followed by a long string of zeros. It was a fortune, but you knew better. If you were serious about pursuing both scientific research and the peak of martial arts, this money might not even be enough to get started.
First things first. You decided to solve your immediate problems and withdrew several thick stacks of cash.
Your next stop was the supermarket. You methodically swept through the aisles, loading your cart with a massive quantity of beef, chicken breast, and various high-calorie, energy-dense foods. Tonight, you would officially begin your martial arts journey in this world, and for that, you needed a tremendous amount of fuel to replenish your blood and qi. Later, you could supplement your diet by absorbing more… specialized forms of energy.
Back in your small apartment, you worked with practiced efficiency. You processed the meat, skimming the foam as it boiled before adding salt and seasoning packets, then set the pot to simmer on the induction cooker with a timer. You tore open the packaging for all the high-calorie snacks and arranged them within arm’s reach.
Finally, you sat cross-legged on the floor. Your posture straightened, your breathing slowed, and in an instant, you entered a deep meditative state, beginning the Thunder Roar Breathing Technique.
With the very first inhalation, you felt it—a surge of violent, untamed energy flooding your body.
Your brow furrowed deeply. You had initially assumed this world was devoid of any special power, but you were wrong. This energy was real, and it was dangerous, laced with a distinctly corrosive quality.
Yet, you remained perfectly calm. A lifetime of experience across countless worlds had forged an unshakeable will. You continued to circulate the Thunder Roar Breathing Technique, guiding the hostile power through your meridians, forcing it to cycle through your body again and again. The initial agony was intense, like acid scouring your insides, but you pushed through it. Gradually, the searing pain subsided, replaced by a much more soothing warmth.
With every breath, the energy permeating the very air was drawn into and assimilated by your body. You reached out, grabbing the high-calorie food you’d laid out, chewing and swallowing in great gulps without breaking your concentration.
Your objective was simple: to completely tame this special energy through sheer force of will and circulation. Or, more accurately, to force your body to adapt to it, triggering an evolution that would make this power your own. You held a simple belief, forged in the fires of a thousand battles: if an energy couldn’t be tamed, it was only because your own strength was insufficient. Under the relentless pressure of a truly powerful force, anything could be brought to heel.
Soon, your first cultivation session came to an end. The pile of high-calorie foods beside you was completely gone.
You rose to your feet and threw two casual punches.
CRACK! CRACK!
The air itself exploded, the sound of miniature sonic booms echoing in the small room.
A grim satisfaction settled over you. Aided by your formidable physical foundation, you had successfully tamed the energy—or rather, your body had completely adapted to it.
You extended your hand, palm up. A swirling, highly corrosive power coalesced above it. At your command, it morphed from a roiling fireball into a sphere of churning water, then shifted again, crackling into a ball of pure lightning.
‘Could this energy be… Honkai?’ The thought surfaced in your mind, cold and sharp. It felt different from the spiritual qi you were used to; its power was incredibly violent, more akin to the Demonic Qi you had encountered in other worlds, but its fundamental nature was distinct.
From that single introductory session, you could feel it everywhere. The entire atmosphere was saturated with this energy. Every breath a person took, willing or not, would draw some of it into their body.
After a moment of contemplation, you were certain. This was an exceptionally dangerous power, but for you, it was also an opportunity. The fact that you could tame it meant you could use it.
You walked over to the desktop computer in your room and powered it on. You would learn everything you could about this world while simultaneously advancing your martial arts. If some apocalyptic disaster were to suddenly strike, you needed to have the power to protect yourself. The pursuit of science was to improve your own understanding, but also to leave something of value behind in this world.
You also knew this cultivation method needed refinement. As it was, it was too dangerous to be popularized on a large scale. While you were no saint, you understood that if this corrosive energy were allowed to accumulate unchecked in the bodies of ordinary people, something terrible was bound to happen.
You still felt you had far too little information. It was highly likely that the world’s governments had long known what this energy was. With a decisive click of the mouse, you made a decision.
You would start by mastering computer technology.
