Chat Group Crossover: My System Simulates Infinite Anime Worlds — Chapter 49
Chapter 49: I Am Not Weak
Nishinomiya Shoko’s brow furrowed in a charming pout as she puffed out her cheeks. Her pen flew across the smooth surface of her notepad, and with a quick flip, she presented her response. Alongside her words was a small, hand-drawn emoji, its expression perfectly matching her own.
( 。 • ˇ ‸ ˇ • 。 )
“I am not weak,” the notepad read. “Most students our age are still hovering between the first star, third rank and the first star, fifth rank.”
She flipped to a new page, her writing quick and confident.
“I’m already at the first star, seventh rank, and I’m sure I’ll break through to the second star before the school year is over! ( ๑ • ̀ ㅂ • ́ ) و ✧”
A faint smile touched Nagumo’s lips. “You’re right,” he conceded gently. “You’re not weak at all. But you still have to keep working hard.”
A bright, happy smile bloomed on Shoko’s face. She nodded emphatically, her small fist clenching in a silent promise to do her best.
With the matter settled, the two of them walked toward the cafeteria together, their conversation turning to what delicious meal might be waiting for them.
Meanwhile, in the teachers’ office, Hiratsuka Shizuka held a large bowl in her hands, noisily slurping down a mouthful of ramen while her eyes were glued to the Chat Group interface floating before her. A short while ago, two new members had joined the group.
To be precise, it was two versions of Jugglus Juggler.
One was the Juggler from the main timeline, the one residing at the Storage facility.
The other was the Juggler from Nagumo’s most recent simulation.
After a brief, chaotic exchange, the Juggler from Storage had descended into a spiral of uncontrollable envy.
【Juggler Unit 1】: “( ノ T益T )ノ Are you kidding me?! You’re an Epitome Holder for Nexus? How could you be an Epitome Holder for Nexus?! I don’t get it! I absolutely do not understand how that light could have possibly chosen you!”
【Juggler Unit 2】: “( ಡ ω ಡ ) Heh. Listening to your tone, I take it my parallel-world self is not an Epitome Holder for Nexus? The way you’re carrying on… don’t tell me you’re actually jealous.”
Juggler Unit 1 was, indeed, the Juggler from the Storage timeline. And he was jealous. Incurably so. He was struck by the deep injustice of it all—how the same person could have such different fates. He had fallen, becoming a creature of darkness, while his other self had been chosen to become the light.
At that moment, the Group Owner decided to chime in.
【Group Owner Zhang Mengmeng】: “Um, let me just say something. Juggler Unit 1, you should be happy! It means that you, in a parallel world, have become the light.”
【Hiratsuka Shizuka】: “I think it would’ve been better if you hadn’t said anything. I feel like you’re just rubbing salt in the wound.”
【Group Owner Zhang Mengmeng】: “Ah, well, that wasn’t my intention. I was just thinking… since the Juggler in another timeline could gain Noah’s recognition and become an Epitome Holder, I believe our Juggler can do it too.”
【Juggler Unit 1】: “Forget it. I’ve come this far after all these years. Sometimes, I think the darkness is quite nice.”
【Juggler Unit 1】: “By the way, other me… how is Gai doing on your side?”
Juggler Unit 2 glanced over at Kurenai Gai, who was, at that very moment, using the Eight-Part Light Wheel to systematically dismember Maga-Orochi not far away. He paused, momentarily at a loss for how to even begin describing the current state of his old rival.
Instead, he activated the Chat Group’s recording function, captured the scene, and uploaded it for all to see.
Then, drawing the Evoltruster, he transformed. “Nexus!” A flash of light, and he stood tall in the Purple Youth Form—a unique evolution specific to this world’s Juggler. He summoned his serpentine blade. “Gai, I’m here to help!”
Back at the Storage facility, Juggler Unit 1 was sitting on a toilet in the restroom, scrolling through the chat. He saw the video file sent by his counterpart and quickly tapped on it.
The screen lit up, and his eyes widened.
‘Holy hell,’he thought,’is that even the Gai I know?’This Gai was a whirlwind of deadly precision, like a horrifying evolution of Ultraman Ace. He had practically become a master of dismemberment, a veritable’Slicing Fiend.’ The movements were far too practiced, honed to a terrifying perfection. Just how many monsters and aliens had he carved up to master the Eight-Part Light Wheel to such a degree?
And his opponent was Maga-Orochi! Yet he wasn’t even using the Orb Calibur. This version of Gai was completely overpowered.
Juggler Unit 1 had a sudden, jarring realization: the Gai in this parallel universe would never need to go around borrowing the power of others again.
A strange mix of relief and melancholy washed over him. He felt a pang of comfort for this alternate Gai, but then thought of the one in his own world, and a familiar frustration at his rival’s stubborn lack of progress soured his mood.
At the same time, in Tengu City, Kurumi Tokisaki lurked silently in the shadows. Clad in her signature crimson and black dress, an eyepatch covering her left eye, she watched the chaos unfolding in the distance. A thought flickered through her mind: how much time could she reclaim if her City of Devouring Time were to consume a creature of that magnitude?
Could it be enough to achieve her goal?
She considered it for a moment before dismissing the idea. The raw, brute power radiating from the monster was immense. She figured that long before her territory could fully devour it, the beast would simply tear through the fabric of her reality and escape.
Back at the Academy for the Extraordinary, the day was ending.
Unlike the boarding students, Nagumo lived nearby. Having been busy all day, he was ready to head home. As a day student, he didn’t have to fight for the good food in the cafeteria, which was a small but significant blessing.
He packed his bag and started toward the school gates. Before leaving, he found Shoko and handed her a piece of fruit, watching with a quiet smile as she began to eat it. After all, she had been his loyal little follower for more than a decade in another life.
Once home, Nagumo stared at the simulation interface floating in his vision. The number of available attempts was more than plentiful, and an familiar itch started in his heart—the urge to dive back in.
He thought, and then he acted. Lying down on his bed, he reached out a hand and tapped the button for a [Normal Simulation].
As the world began to fade, he sent a silent prayer into the void. Please, not another run where I’m working for someone else. I’ve had enough of being Noah’s errand boy.
He just wanted a break. A chance to rest, or maybe even live a peaceful life for a change.
The list of available traits materialized before him.
