Chapter 46: Run, Your Mother

[Aboard the spaceship, Jugglus Juggler leaned against a cool metal bulkhead, the low hum of the engines a constant drone. He rubbed his chin, a thoughtful, almost predatory glint in his eyes. He was pondering the identity of this “boss” that Nagumo so frequently cursed. Could Noah truly be as formidable as the stories suggested?]

[Miyabi and Ritsuka returned, half-carrying, half-dragging Shinra’s unconscious form. They wasted no time, shoving him directly into one of the ship’s medical pods. The transparent canopy hissed shut, and the pod began to glow with a soft, healing light.]

[Fortunately, this Queen Amaterasu, for all her misguided zeal, wasn’t a complete fool. She hadn’t seen fit to decommission essential equipment like the medical facilities.]

[As the ship charted its course toward Planet Kanon, Asuka, who was already on board, established a connection with Musashi’s vessel. He spoke in hushed, urgent tones, vaguely explaining the situation they were flying into.]

[Musashi quickly grasped the core of the message: upon arriving, his priority was to protect the planet’s inhabitants. He was to ignore any commands from the Queen. Of course, telling a man like Musashi not to do something was often the surest way to make him want to do it.]

[The first time Juggler laid eyes on Asuka, his immediate, visceral instinct was to walk over and slap him twice across the face. Hard.]

[However, he restrained himself. He had no personal grudge against the man—not yet, anyway—and couldn’t manufacture a convincing reason to act. He made a mental note: after this whole mess was sorted out, he would have Gai throw a sack over this guy’s head and drag him into a dark alley for a… chat.]

[He’d also ask him about Noah then.]

[Asuka, oblivious to the violent thoughts directed his way, told Juggler everything he could about the unfolding crisis. When he was finished, he looked at Juggler with genuine curiosity. “Why are you so interested in Noah?” he asked.]

[Juggler said nothing. He simply reached into his coat and slowly, deliberately, pulled out the Evoltruster. Its dark, metallic surface seemed to absorb the light in the corridor. He met Asuka’s gaze and enunciated each word with chilling clarity.]

[“Noah,” he said, “is my boss.”]

[Asuka was rendered utterly speechless.]

[It was in this heavy, stunned silence that your fleet arrived at Planet Kanon. The sight that greeted you was one of devastation. Countless giant monsters rampaged across the once-beautiful landscape, tearing and burning with mindless fury.]

[At the heart of the chaos, before the sacred Tree of Life, Ultraman Cosmos stood as the lone defender. He was besieged on all sides. The War Deity, a host of monstrous Bezelbs, and other beasts twisted by Puppet Poison swarmed him, their attacks a frantic, overwhelming storm.]

[You didn’t hesitate. You manifested directly, not as a mere giant of light, but as the embodiment of a cosmic will—Ultraman Legend. You appeared in a flash of blinding power right before Musashi. He saw the legendary form and froze, his mind reeling in confusion. Justice wasn’t here… how could Legend possibly exist?]

[You turned, your golden form radiating an almost unbearable pressure. You looked down at Musashi and, without a word, slapped him. The sound cracked through the air like lightning. You then pointed a finger directly at his nose.]

[“Did you do something completely unnecessary again?”] you scolded, your voice a resonant boom.]

[Musashi stammered, his mouth opening and closing, but no words came out. You responded with a swift backhand, the force of the blow sending him tumbling and forcibly reverting him to his human form. With the nuisance dealt with, you turned to face the true threat.]

[You raised your arms, gathering cosmic energy, and unleashed the Spark Legend.]

[The wave of pure, incandescent power was absolute. It washed over the battlefield, and in its light, all the monsters were not merely defeated, but utterly annihilated, erased from existence. The corrupted Tree of Life, caught in the blast, was also vaporized alongside them. You then turned your gaze to the War Deity and lightly clenched your hand.]

[A sphere of brilliant, condensed energy was pulled from within her body, a stolen power source now reclaimed. As it left her, Queen Amaterasu’s form flickered, the divine armor shattering. She fell heavily to the ground, unconscious.]

[You transformed into a beam of light, crossing the void to Earth in an instant. You found the newly born, untainted Tree of Life and threw the ball of energy into its core. “Have better judgment next time,” you told the nascent world-spirit. “Don’t let an idiot become the War Deity.”]

[No sooner had the words left you than a shimmering portal tore open the fabric of space directly in front of you. A familiar, weary feeling washed over you. Your exploitative, black-hearted boss, Noah, was about to assign you more work.]

[For a very, very long time afterward, you were enslaved by Noah’s endless demands.]

[You became a cosmic firefighter. As the old saying went: you were a brick, moved wherever you were needed to plug a hole. During this long tenure, you saved countless worlds and extinguished dying stars.]

[Whenever you had a spare moment, you sought out the most extreme environments in the universe to train. You tempered your body in the hearts of neutron stars and the crushing gravity of black hole singularities.]

[Your physical form reached a point of absurdity. Even without transforming, you could shatter a moon-sized asteroid with the raw, unadorned power of a single punch.]

[This continued until one day, a virtual interface suddenly materialized before your eyes. A line of text glowed upon it: “Detected strong dissatisfaction from the Host. Do you wish to end the simulation?”]

[You were stunned for a moment, the sheer monotony of your existence having made you forget this was all a test. Then, the realization crashed over you. Of course you chose to end it. If you kept working for this slave-driving boss, you were certain you would be worked to death.]

[You decided then and there that when you returned, you would live the life of a consummate slacker.]

[As you clicked ‘End,’ you mentally threw back everything the Four Mysterious Ultras had ever given you. You were done. You felt a deep sense of release, of true freedom.]

[This simulation has ended.]

Nagumo’s eyes snapped open. He felt a deep, soul-crushing exhaustion that no previous simulation had ever managed to inflict upon him.

He stared with dead-fish eyes at the results glowing on the virtual interface before him.

[Overall Evaluation: You encountered Nexus and successfully altered the tragic ending for both Himeya Jun and Riko. During this time, while the four old fogies were amusing themselves, you were chosen as the Champion of the Four Gods. Fortunately for you, this wasn’t the Warhammer universe.]

[Finally, you became a cosmic firefighter, saved innumerable life-bearing planets, and left a deep, unforgettable impression on the countless people who remember your deeds.]

[Final Evaluation: You’re already the Champion of the Four Gods. What other evaluation could you possibly need?]

[Final Score: S+]

[Distributing rewards according to the score.]

[Rewards Distributing: Obtained the physical strength gained from self-training during this simulation, the Evoltruster, the Energy Blaster Gun, the Stone Wing, and one (1) letter.]

Upon seeing the list of rewards, Nagumo shot up from his lying position, his exhaustion momentarily forgotten. He thrust both middle fingers toward the ceiling.

“What a complete rip-off!” he roared at the empty air. “You motherfucker! You’re still not letting me go!”

After accepting the rewards, Nagumo felt a surge of power flood his body as the items materialized before him. He clenched his fists, the feeling of his newfound physical might a stark reality. He sighed, the anger draining out of him, replaced by resignation. He picked up the letter.

He tore it open. There was only a single, terse sentence written on the page.

“Run, your mother.”

It was signed, simply, “Noah.”

Expressionlessly, Nagumo threw the letter to the floor and stomped on it. Once. Twice. He ground his heel into it for good measure.

After venting a small fraction of his frustration, he took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down and adjust his mindset.

He picked up the Evoltruster and tossed it into the dimensional space of the Stone Wing. In this world, was there any place safer? He kept the Energy Blaster Gun on his person, and the Stone Wing itself would serve as a convenient mode of transport.

A moment later, he found himself on the roof of his house.

Nagumo lay down on the tiles, scratching the back of his head as he watched the last fiery vestiges of the sunset paint the clouds. The silence was deep.

He felt a deep sense of comfort wash over him, a peace he hadn’t known for what felt like millennia. He was so relaxed, in fact, that he was completely unaware of a subtle shift within his own body. With a soft, internal ‘pop,’ the flow of Qi in his meridians cleared a final blockage, flowing as naturally and inevitably as water carving a new channel through the earth.

Nagumo’s Martial Dao cultivation had just successfully broken through to the Golden Core stage.

The system, sensing the shift, immediately masked all the usual phenomena associated with such a breakthrough. It understood, better than anyone, that what its Host needed most right now was simply rest.

At that moment, the Golden Core forming within him was a bit different from the norm. It looked less like a solid pill and more like a miniature universe, a swirling nebula of power. Tiny specks of light glittered within it like distant stars, and he could almost feel the faint, rhythmic hum of electromagnetic force pulsing from its core.

Lying on the roof, Nagumo fell asleep. He slept deeply and soundly, without dreams of cosmic battles or slave-driving deities.

He slept until the next morning, when the warm, orange-yellow sunlight shone down on his face. He stretched, a long and satisfying motion, feeling more comfortable and refreshed than he had in a very, very long time.
