Marvel x Genshin: Mavuika, The Sun Goddess Rules Asgard — Chapter 199

Chapter 199: Aftermath

The last embers of the setting sun sank below the horizon, and the sky over Wakanda bled from gold and crimson into a deep, star-dusted sapphire. The heavens, once choked with the metallic swarm of Ultron’s legion, had finally returned to a state of deep tranquility.

In the distance, several buildings in the city center still trailed thin plumes of smoke against the darkening sky, but rescue teams were already moving with practiced efficiency among the ruins. The cool, blue beams of advanced energy tools illuminated damaged walls, while the sparks from Vibranium welders flickered like constellations of fireflies between the futuristic high-rises.

This was the first time in millennia that the hidden African nation had revealed its true face to the world, baptized in the fires of war.

Yet its people showed no fear, no sign of retreat. They stood tall amidst the rubble, their ancient battle songs mingling with the hum of modern technology, a defiant declaration to any would-be invader: Wakanda will not fall.

Mavuika stood on the palace terrace, her gaze sweeping over the city as it began the arduous process of healing. The night wind, cool and gentle, stirred her long hair, and the golden-red strands seemed to capture the moonlight, shimmering with a soft, internal fire. In her hand, she held a cup of local herbal tea. The liquid was a deep, ruby red, exuding a sweet, earthy fragrance she had never before encountered.

The soft sound of footsteps approached from behind.

T’Chaka walked up to stand beside her. He had already shed his black Vibranium armor, now clad in a traditional Wakandan robe of deep blue, its edges embroidered with complex golden geometric patterns. A heavy necklace of polished Vibranium beads rested around his neck. In this attire, he looked less like a warrior king and more like a kind, dignified elder, though the sharp, all-seeing light in his eyes remained undimmed.

“Your Highness Mavuika,” T’Chaka began, his voice a low, gentle baritone. “Does the bustle of the banquet hall not suit your tastes?”

Mavuika glanced at him, the corner of her mouth lifting in a faint smile. “It does. But sometimes, a moment of peace is a greater treasure.”

T’Chaka chuckled softly, a warm, rumbling sound. “As do I.” He joined her in looking out at the city, his hands clasped behind his back. “It has been over a century since Wakanda has experienced a war of this scale. The last time was when the colonizers first tried to breach our borders.”

Mavuika remained silent for a moment before speaking. “Regarding Ultron… I am sorry.”

T’Chaka shook his head, his expression firm. “It is not your fault. Tony Stark has already offered his own apology. You need not carry his burdens, my friend.”

Tony had indeed apologized.

Just a few hours prior, as the last of the Ultron drones were being cleared away and the Wakandan warriors began to take stock of their losses, Tony had stood before T’Chaka. His Iron Man helmet was retracted, revealing a face streaked with grime and etched with deep weariness. He offered the king a deep, formal bow.

“King T’Chaka,” he had said, his voice raw and hoarse. “Ultron was my mistake. Stark Industries will take full responsibility for all of Wakanda’s losses—be it financial, technological, or in manpower… you have but to name your price.”

T’Chaka had regarded him for a long moment, his gaze steady. He looked at this brash young man—the one who had unleashed this plague upon the world, and then fought to destroy it with his own hands. There was no anger or blame in the king’s eyes, only the complex, searching scrutiny of an elder weighing the character of a junior.

“Mr. Stark,” he finally said, his voice even. “I accept your apology. But Wakanda does not require your charity.”

Tony looked up, a flicker of shame and guilt crossing his bloodshot eyes. “It’s not charity,” he insisted, his voice gaining a sliver of its usual stubbornness. “It’s responsibility. I made this mess. I will clean it up.”

T’Chaka was quiet for another moment, and then a faint, knowing smile touched his lips. “Very well. In that case, let us discuss ‘responsibility’.”

The two of them had sat down amidst the ruins and begun to negotiate the terms of Wakanda’s reconstruction. Tony produced a complete list of Stark Industries’ available resources, while T’Chaka outlined the precise supplies and technical support his nation required. In the end, they reached an agreement that was mutually beneficial.

But Mavuika knew that T’Chaka’s acceptance was driven by more than just need.

She studied the king’s profile, the moonlight casting a silver sheen upon his graying beard. “King T’Chaka, what are you planning?”

T’Chaka turned to look at her, a brief flash of surprise in his eyes, which quickly melted into a wry smile. “You are more perceptive than I gave you credit for.”

Mavuika did not feign modesty. “When one has lived long enough, one learns to see the patterns.”

The king was silent for a moment, his gaze turning back to the horizon. “Wakanda cannot remain hidden forever.”

Mavuika watched him, waiting.

He continued, his voice heavy with the weight of history. “For centuries, we have concealed ourselves within this jungle, using our technology to build a veil against the outside world. We did this out of fear—fear of being plundered, fear of being colonized, fear that greedy invaders would destroy our home. But the world is changing. The technology of the outsiders advances with every passing day. Eventually, our disguise will be pierced.”

He paused, taking a deep breath. “Rather than waiting to be discovered, it is better to step into the light on our own terms. That way, we at least retain the initiative.”

Mavuika nodded slowly, understanding dawning. “You’ve been waiting for an opportunity.”

T’Chaka inclined his head. “Yes. An opportunity for Wakanda to reveal itself to the world in a way that does not seem… abrupt. Ultron’s invasion—” He gave a bitter, humorless smile. “As brutal as it was, it provided just such an opportunity. Wakanda stood with the world’s heroes to defeat a global threat. This is a far better beginning than I could have ever imagined.”

Mavuika looked at him, a newfound respect warming her amber eyes. “You are a good king.”

T’Chaka’s expression softened. “I am merely a father to my people.”

He turned his head, his gaze drifting toward the brightly lit banquet hall. Through the tall, crystalline windows, they could see the lively celebration within. T’Challa was standing with Thor, the two of them deep in conversation. Suddenly, Thor let out a booming laugh and clapped T’Challa on the shoulder with enough force to make the young prince stagger slightly.

“T’Challa,” T’Chaka said, his voice filled with a quiet pride. “He is more suited to this era than I am. He is young, he has vision, and he knows how to embrace change. I am old. There are traditions and fears I cannot let go of… but he can.”

Mavuika followed his gaze, studying the young prince. He wore the traditional garments of Wakanda, yet a high-tech Vibranium belt was cinched at his waist, and his boots, though ordinary in appearance, had soles that flickered with a faint blue light. A gentle, diplomatic smile was on his face, but his eyes held the same sharp, intelligent fire as his father’s.

“He will be a good king,” Mavuika affirmed.

T’Chaka looked at her, his gratitude sincere. “Thank you.”

The two of them stood on the terrace for a while longer, a comfortable silence settling between them. The wind whispered up from the valley, carrying the cool mist of the waterfalls and the rich, loamy scent of the forest. In the distance, the city lights ignited one by one, mirroring the stars above, creating a constellation on the earth below.

Inside the royal palace, the atmosphere of the banquet hall was warm and boisterous. This was a traditional Wakandan victory feast, a celebration of life and resilience. The hall itself was a cavernous, magnificent space, easily accommodating the hundreds of warriors, scientists, and dignitaries gathered within. Its decor was a masterful fusion of solemn tribal grandeur and advanced technology.

In the center of the hall, a long, polished obsidian table groaned under the weight of a dazzling array of Wakandan delicacies. There were platters of golden-brown, crispy roasted game, glistening with savory juices; bowls piled high with vibrant, fresh tropical fruits; fragrant, steaming grains and breads; and a stunning assortment of specialty drinks and wines in crystalline carafes. The sheer variety was a feast for the eyes, and the aromas wafting through the hall were enough to make one’s mouth water.
