Magic Card Era: Infinite Deck Enhancement — Chapter 9

July 14, 2026 Calculating...

Chapter 9: Where’s My Big Horny Angry Tiger?

“Brother Ping, you… you might only rank third in this unified examination.”

The student who usually acted as Wang Ping’s shadow swallowed hard, his voice dropping to a hesitant whisper.

Wang Ping’s head snapped up, his face twisting in absolute disbelief. “Only third? What the hell happened? Was it someone from Second High? Even if it is, there’s no way two people managed to score ahead of me!”

His record had already shattered the best college entrance examination scores Second High School had seen in years. The idea of anyone from Third High School surpassing him didn’t even cross his mind. The gap in resources and top-tier talent between the First and Second High Schools and the lowly Third High School was an established, unquestionable fact.

“It was Bei Hanyun from Second High,” the student explained, shrinking back slightly. “She created a Water Azure Beast. Its quality was graded higher than your Inferno Knight. Even though she was eventually eliminated, her summon lasted about ten seconds longer against the swarm than yours did.”

“Bei Hanyun? A Water Azure Beast?” Wang Ping’s expression darkened. He hadn’t expected Second High to produce a genius capable of matching him, let alone edging him out by a few seconds. He gritted his teeth. “Fine. Who’s the other one?”

“The other one is Luke. From Third High School. He… he’s actually still inside the unified examination space!”

“Third High?!” Wang Ping thought he was hallucinating. After forcing his lackey to repeat the confirmation twice, he furiously tapped his wrist terminal, pulling up Luke’s live stream.

The chat was already a warzone.

[Where are all the loudmouths from First and Second High now? Didn’t you just say Wang Ping and Bei Hanyun were basically gods compared to Luke?]

[And look at the screen! Our Brother Luke is still casually strolling through the exam, while your ‘geniuses’ got wiped out!]

[Hahaha, absolutely brutal! Get wrecked!]

Reading the smug, gloating comments from the Third High School students, Wang Ping felt the blood rush to his ears. His jaw clenched so tight his teeth ground together. He was actually being used as a stepping stone for some no-name from a trash school?

But the moment his eyes flicked from the chat to the actual broadcast, the anger died in his throat.

“Holy shit…” Wang Ping blurted out, his eyes widening.

Miles away, in a different viewing room, the elegant Bei Hanyun dropped her refined image entirely, uttering the exact same curse.

On the holographic stream, the Dark Magician Girl floated gracefully in the air. Beneath her was a massive Angry Tiger—a fierce beast several magnitudes more dangerous than the Wood Spirit Vine. Yet, with a playful twirl of her staff and a single, devastating blast of a Dark Burning Attack, the massive predator was instantly vaporized into the afterlife.

When the smoke cleared, the only loot left behind on the scorched earth was a long, whip-like material.

The examinees from First and Second High, who had been desperately typing out counter-arguments just moments before, stared at the screen in dead silence.

No matter how much it stung their pride, the reality was staring them right in the face. The Dark Magician Girl was in an entirely different league compared to the Inferno Knight and the Water Azure Beast. At the very least, she could casually obliterate an Angry Tiger. Their prized summons had been counter-killed by the significantly weaker Wood Spirit Vine.

The live chat exploded with a new wave of hysteria.

[Wait, the Angry Tiger? Where did my big, terrifying Angry Tiger go? It just vanished!]

[Good heavens! Look at the loot drop! A Tiger Whip? Turns out this was a horny tiger all along. That material is top-tier for certain… stamina potions!]

[From the One-Star common Forest Wolf to a Five-Star elite Angry Tiger… nothing survives more than one hit.]

[Forget Dark Magician Girl, rename her the One-Shot Girl. I’ve never seen a Magic Card with such absurd, rule-breaking attack power.]

[She has to be a Five-Star Magic Card. Maybe even Six-Star! A Six-Star student creation… just thinking about it gives me goosebumps!]

[The pressure is all on First and Second High now. I think we all know who the real king of this city is!]

Damn it!

Watching the Third High School students parade their arrogance across the screen, the elites of First and Second High swallowed their bitter resentment. They couldn’t type a single word in retaliation. The raw footage was absolute.

“So strong…” Bei Hanyun murmured, biting her lower lip until it turned pale.

When facing the Wood Spirit Vine, her Water Azure Beast could at least put up a desperate fight. But if it had encountered that Angry Tiger? Even with all its damage reduction skills active, her summon would have been shredded in a single pounce. The Angry Tiger’s attack and defense stats were monstrous.

Yet, Luke’s Dark Magician Girl had casually wiped it from existence. The sheer, impossible gap in their power made a heavy sense of despair settle in her chest.

Back at First High, Wang Ping sat in heavy silence. Remembering how he had been loudly bragging about his guaranteed first-place finish just ten minutes ago, a burning flush of humiliation crept up his neck.

Fuck! Should I just repeat a year? Where the hell did Third High find this freak of nature?! Wang Ping screamed internally, burying his face in his hands.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere at Cangling Third High School was practically a festival.

Deafening cheers and shocked gasps erupted through the hallways. None of the teachers stepped in to quiet the students down; in fact, most of the younger faculty were cheering right alongside them.

“Yes! Go, Luke!” Zhang Ming, Luke’s homeroom teacher, punched the air, his eyes shining with a wild mix of shock and pure adrenaline.

He was shocked because, as Luke’s mentor, he had absolutely no idea the kid was hiding a trump card of this magnitude. He was thrilled because Luke was currently rewriting the school’s history. Throughout the entire second stage of the exam, it didn’t matter what class of fierce beast spawned. The Dark Magician Girl ended every single encounter with a one-shot kill.

Even Five-Star terrors like the Wood Spirit Vine and the Angry Tiger were treated like minor inconveniences.

A combat record like this practically guaranteed that the Dark Magician Girl was a high-quality Five-Star card, or perhaps even a Six-Star. Wang Ping and Bei Hanyun had only managed to forge Four-Star Magic Cards. Even veteran Monarch Realm instructors like Zhang Ming only possessed a handful of Six-Star cards in their personal decks.

For a high school student to forge a Six-Star Magic Card during a timed exam was a display of terrifying, generational talent.

“Zhang Ming! Excellent work!”

A cool, authoritative voice cut through the celebration. Vice-Principal Zhou Rong stood at the edge of the room. Though she was deliberately trying to maintain her strict composure, the bright, excited flush on her cheeks betrayed her.

With Principal Gu currently away at the City Lord’s Mansion, the King Realm expert Zhou Rong was in full command of the school. Normally, she radiated a freezing, unapproachable aura that terrified the student body. But today, Luke’s heaven-defying performance had shattered her icy exterior.

“I’m honestly just as surprised as you are, Vice-Principal,” Zhang Ming replied, chuckling nervously. He couldn’t help but marvel inwardly. To think that the woman secretly nicknamed ‘Mistress Annihilator’ by the staff could smile so warmly.

“This unified examination… it seems our Third High School is going to reap an unimaginable harvest,” Zhou Rong said softly, her eyes locked onto the holographic projection of the beautiful, devastatingly powerful Dark Magician Girl.

If he was doing this in a mock exam, Zhou Rong couldn’t even begin to fathom the shockwaves Luke would send through the actual college entrance examination.

“An Angry Tiger?”

Inside the isolated unified examination space, Luke finally opened his eyes, letting out a soft breath.

Having consumed a noticeable chunk of his mental energy, the Magic Spellbook’s simulation progress had finally reached 100%. Satisfied with the data, Luke decided to pause his card simulations for now. The testing phase was over, and the results were flawless.

He glanced down at the scorched earth, his eyes landing on the strange, whip-like appendage left behind by the vanished beast.

A flicker of mild surprise crossed his face. “Did I run into a Five-Star fierce beast already?”

Despite the realization, his heart rate didn’t even spike. He simply looked up at the floating Dark Magician Girl, a relaxed smile touching his lips. He knew exactly how absurd her damage output was. Five-Star beast or not, it was just another target practice dummy.
