Honkai Star Rail: Summoning the Chrysos Heirs — Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Character Recollection
“Doesn’t exist in my future?”
Cyrene keenly caught those fleeting words, her azure, diamond-shaped pupils contracting slightly.
The cold mechanical voice lacked any inflection, slicing through the cruel reality like a surgical scalpel.
[Without your descent, this would be the final end of this world.]
Before the voice could completely fade, the suffocating imagery of the battlefield disintegrated around them, crumbling away like ash scattered by a violent wind.
Cyrene subconsciously took half a step back. Before she could even steady her footing, the scene before her eyes had already reorganized.
It was still the exact same crossroads from before, boasting the identical street signs and storefronts.
But everything else had changed.
The deafening clamor of gunfire, the guttural roars of monsters, and the agonizing wails of the dying vanished completely in a single instant, replaced by a heart-stopping, absolute silence.
The streets were utterly deserted. The asphalt beneath her boots was covered in dried, blackened cracks, with withered yellow weeds stubbornly poking through the fractured gaps.
All the shop windows were coated in a thick, opaque layer of grime, looking remarkably like eyes that had been dead for a long time—cloudy, hollow, and entirely lifeless.
A dry wind swirled scrap newspapers across the cracked ground with a harsh, scraping friction; it was the only movement left in this dead city.
[Civilization severed. Abominations running rampant.]
The System’s voice echoed out over the empty ruins.
[Less than one in ten thousand humans survived. They hide beneath the sewers and the irradiated wastelands, gasping for breath as they await their final extinction.]
Cyrene stood silently beside an open-air cafe, her gaze sweeping over the thick layer of dust that had accumulated for years on the nearest table.
She slowly reached out, her fingertips trembling slightly as she tried to brush against the dust-covered surface.
There was no sensation of touch.
Her fair fingers passed straight through the rotting tabletop as if moving through a digital hologram, hovering uselessly in mid-air.
A deep, suffocating sense of powerlessness spread from her fingertips all the way to her core.
“Then what can I even do?”
Cyrene withdrew her hand and gripped the fabric over her chest tightly, her voice dropping into a low, raspy whisper.
“A few hours ago, I was still slamming my desk in anger over a terrible gacha pull… I’m just an ordinary person. I’ve never even been in a real fight, let alone saved a dying world.”
[Firstly, you are not weak.]
[Secondly, the purpose of the System’s existence is to assist you in rewriting all of this.]
A blinding white light suddenly flared into existence.
The desolate scene of the ruined city was instantly swallowed by the intense illumination, and that familiar, dizzying sensation of weightlessness struck her once again.
When Cyrene opened her eyes, that vast, freezing starry sky enveloped her once more.
Beneath her feet lay the endless void of the Milky Way; above her head rotated a massive, brilliant nebula.
Cyrene exhaled a long, shaky breath of stale air, as if trying to physically purge that oppressive sense of despair from her lungs.
She raised her hands to rub her somewhat stiff cheeks, forcing herself to pull away from that hellish vision of the future.
‘Since I’m here, I might as well make the best of it.”If I don’t accept it, am I supposed to just float in this vacuum for the rest of my life?”Besides… those monsters that slaughtered humanity at will…’
Cyrene looked up. The lingering confusion in her eyes dissipated, rapidly replaced by the reckless determination of someone with absolutely nothing left to lose.
“I hope this Deliverance mission isn’t too hardcore… System, where’s the beginner tutorial? What exactly should I do?”
[Switching to visual interactive mode for you.]
A circle of blue ripples spread outward through the empty air.
A translucent, light-blue floating panel, carrying a sleek high-tech glow, slowly unfolded directly in front of Cyrene.
[Name: Cyrene]
[Gender: Female]
[Race: Unknown]
[Abilities: Unlocked]
[Memory Trace: 0]
Cyrene’s gaze lingered heavily on the lines “Cyrene” and “Female” for a full three seconds.
Even though she had already confirmed her new reality in the mirror, seeing this personal data displayed in black and white on a glowing blue background still made her twitch. She finally sighed, entirely resigning herself to fate.
“Well, looking at myself now, there’s nothing factually wrong with what’s written here… though it’ll still take some time to mentally accept…”
She shook her head helplessly, her gaze continuing downward. After browsing the sparse few lines of information, she rolled her eyes.
“This panel is way too pathetic. Aside from my name and gender, everything else is either ‘Unknown’or’Locked’? Is this some cheap knock-off product?”
Next, her slender finger passed through the light screen, pointing directly at the conspicuous “0” at the very bottom.
“What is this ‘Memory Trace’? Is it currency?”
[Memory Trace refers to the memory imprints you leave in this world.]
The System’s explanation was crisp and concise.
[The deeper the cognition, the wider the range of influence, and the stronger the emotion you evoke from others, the higher the Memory Trace value obtained.]
Cyrene rubbed her chin thoughtfully, her previously vacant eyes gradually focusing with sharp clarity.
As a veteran gamer, she instantly understood the core loop of this mechanism.
“Got it. It’s about farming presence and earning reputation points.”
She snapped her fingers, her tone becoming significantly lighter.
“As long as I make more people remember me, or remember the things I’ve done, I can get stronger, right?”
“Then what are these Memory Traces actually used for?”
[They are used to summon abilities and companions from the Remembrance.]
Hearing the word “companions,” Cyrene’s eyebrow arched slightly.
“Open that Memory Collection and let me see.”
The text on the blue panel dissipated instantly, swiftly followed by the refresh of three new option boxes.
[Ability Remembrance: 100 Memory Traces per pull]
[Character Recollection: 0 Memory Traces]
[To be unlocked]
“…This is even more sparse than the personal panel from before.”
Cyrene stared at the massive empty areas on the screen and complained loudly.
“There aren’t even any product preview images, and one slot is literally just ‘To be unlocked’. Is this System’s development progress stuck at version 0.5?”
[Because the number of Memory Traces you currently hold is too low, high-level functions are temporarily unavailable.]
The System answered solemnly, showing absolutely no fluctuation in tone despite being openly mocked.
[Once you obtain enough Memory Traces, subsequent modules will unlock automatically.]
“Fine, fine, I can’t see the good stuff because my level isn’t high enough.”
Cyrene waved her hand dismissively, her gaze finally locking onto the middle line.
The consumption displayed there wasn’t a daunting number, but a heart-stirring, beautiful “0”.
“Wait a minute…”
Cyrene leaned closer to the glowing panel, her eyes widening slightly as her previous dejection vanished into thin air.
“It shows 0 Memory Traces here? It’s completely free?”
“A free pull? Then what the hell are we waiting for!”
Cyrene’s eyes lit up instantly; it was the degenerate gambler’s soul etched deep into her DNA burning bright.
The fear and confusion from earlier were diluted significantly by the overwhelming temptation of this “free single pull.”
She took a deep breath and nodded vigorously, her voice ringing clear across the void:
“Come on! Let me see who my beginner pity is! Start the roll right now!”
[As you wish.]
As the System’s voice fell, the previously quiet starry sky suddenly became violently restless.
The surrounding stars began to rotate at a terrifying speed, dragging long tails of light like countless shimmering ribbons, all converging toward the dark void directly above Cyrene’s head.
The nebula churned, stirring itself into a massive, impressive vortex.
Cyrene tilted her head back, holding her breath, staring fixedly at the dead center of that cosmic storm.
The next moment.
An extremely dazzling golden light suddenly pierced through the deep, suffocating darkness!
“Gold?! I actually got a hit?!”
Cyrene cried out in pure surprise, her heart beating violently against her ribs.
That golden light expanded rapidly in the depths of the nebula, then transformed into a brilliant, burning meteor. Carrying a terrifying momentum that felt capable of destroying heaven and earth, it fell straight toward Cyrene’s location!
Even though they were standing in a vacuum consciousness space, Cyrene seemed to hear a massive, deafening roar exploding in the very depths of her soul.
The golden light tore through the stardust along the way. In her gradually dilating pupils, it slammed hard into the void right beside her!
