Honkai Star Rail: Saving the World with a Mobile Game — Chapter 41

July 20, 2026 Calculating...

Chapter 41: The New Version’s Quality is Still High, Is Returning Home Necessary?

Business was business, but the game always took priority.

After finalizing the necessary arrangements with Herta, Ash shifted his focus back to the community forums. Barely any time had passed since the new version’s promotional video dropped, yet a massive wave of analysis videos had already flooded the front page.

[Ten-Thousand-Word Deep Dive! The Paean of Re-creation: Hidden Foreshadowing You Missed in Honkai: Star Rail’s Last Update!]

[Lore Chat: Who is Castorice’s Other Half, and What is Tribios’s True Identity?]

[Version 3.1 PV is STACKED! New Main DPS Incoming? Who is the Black-Masked Man?]

The comment sections beneath these videos were a warzone of theory-crafters. Version 3.0 had concluded, leaving the player base stranded in a sea of riddles. Everyone was itching to see exactly what kind of narrative tricks Ash planned to pull to justify a massive lore concept like the Triple Path.

Over on the streaming side, Guinaifen was already live. Having recently discovered that Sushang was also a closet Honkai: Star Rail addict, she had dragged her friend onto the broadcast for a co-op reaction stream.

The PV heavily featured rapid-fire cinematic cuts of Mydei, Tribbie, Trinnon, and Trianne. The animation quality was absurdly high, dripping with visual metaphors and hidden text. Chat was losing their minds over two specific frames: Phainon suddenly driving a sword into Mydei’s chest, and the brief, ominous glimpse of a man wearing a pitch-black mask.

[The Author actually cooked! The quality is still through the roof. Does a turn-based gacha really need this much budget?]

[Ngl, I thought they were going to phone it in for the filler patch. I kneel.]

[Update the game faster! I need the main story right now. Give me the Tribbie and Mydei lore!]

[Don’t forget the Triple Path setting the Author hyped up. The bar is in the stratosphere, let’s see if they can stick the landing.]

While the chat scrolled at lightspeed, the two streamers were practically vibrating in their seats, desperate to dive into the new content.

[Amphoreus 3.1 Main Story: Opening of the Gates, End of the Throne has begun!]

The sequence opened with a sleek recap of the 3.0 cliffhanger. Just as the lore bloggers predicted, something had gone terribly wrong with Phainon. Stelle and Mydei formed an emergency vanguard, linking up with Dan Heng halfway through the treacherous terrain to breach the Trial of Strife. The Phainon Rescue Plan was officially a go.

Guinaifen rubbed her hands together, a wicked grin on her face. She had just whaled for an E6 Herta off-stream. The journey through the trial was less of a desperate rescue and more of a one-sided massacre. Any monster foolish enough to spawn in her path was instantly flattened; even a massive Chimera elite lurking by the roadside ate a raw Imaginary Pulse straight to the jaw and disintegrated.

They bulldozed their way to the Avatar of Strife, dismantling the boss in a handful of turns.

The moment the massive enemy shattered into pixels, the screen faded to black. A pre-rendered cinematic triggered.

“Wait.” Guinaifen leaned closer to her monitor, her jaw dropping. “Something is wrong.”

On screen, Mydei and Stelle were fighting back-to-back, locked in a brutal war of attrition against the endless Minions of Strife. Dust and debris filled the air. Without warning, a flash of white tore through the battlefield, a blade aimed directly at Mydei’s back.

The camera snapped to the attacker. It was Phainon.

“What is happening?!” Sushang shrieked, nearly knocking over her microphone.

Just like the previous patch, the Author was dropping a nuclear plot twist right out of the gate. Guinaifen gripped her mouse, unsure if Phainon was under some kind of mind control or if this was a genuine betrayal.

The cold steel closed the distance. It was the exact shot from the PV.

Guinaifen squeezed her eyes shut. “Stop!”

A sharp, metallic ring echoed through her headphones.

Crimson crystals shattered across the screen like blooming roses, freezing the frame for a split second. When the dust cleared, Mydei was casually gripping the edge of the blade with his bare hand. The camera panned around, revealing both of them smirking at each other.

It was a forced perspective shot.

[HE PLAYED US!]

[I am actually shaking! I thought Little Phai was going to assassinate him!]

[The Author is a menace for that camera angle. Using the PV footage to bait us is criminal.]

[I told you guys in the forums! The Author promised a happy ending, he wouldn’t kill off the main duo in the first five minutes!]

Guinaifen slumped back in her gaming chair, exhaling a massive breath. The community had spent the last forty-eight hours analyzing that specific stabbing frame pixel by pixel, spinning tragic theories of betrayal and corruption. And it was just a camera trick.

Meanwhile, in the real Amphoreus, someone else was getting a good laugh out of the new storyline.

“Haha, how does it feel, Deliverer?” Mydei crossed his arms, leaning against the wall with a smug raise of his eyebrows. “I told you not to get ahead of yourself. The Spark of Strife wasn’t guaranteed to be yours.”

He tilted his head, his grin widening. “Looks like you failed, didn’t you?”

Phainon aggressively rubbed the back of his neck, looking thoroughly defeated. “Why didn’t I just stab you for real back then? You can resurrect infinitely anyway.”

Out in the grand hall beyond Ash’s private room, the rest of the cast was entirely ignoring the bickering duo, deeply engrossed in dissecting Ash’s latest promotional video.

[Cipher: The special effects in this PV are ridiculous. Why does it look cooler than our actual reality? They even managed to make the Little Prince look intimidating.]

[Cipher: The Son of Gorgo gets screen time? Why am I still not in the game when even Teacher Xia made the cut?]

[Anaxa: Even in a digital chatroom, you should address him properly as Anaxagoras.]

[Anaxa:, a mere entertainment product could never accurately capture my image or my philosophical depth. There is nothing to be envious of.]

Despite the dismissive text, Anaxa was sitting in the corner of the hall, a faint, obvious smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as he tapped his screen.

[Aglaea: It brings back memories…]

[Aglaea: For the longest time, My Teacher always maintained the form of a child. When he suddenly reverted to his true self, it took me quite a while to adjust.]

[Aglaea: But looking at this PV, it seems it is My Teacher’s time to shine. (Smiles)]

It was an open secret that the Chrysos Heirs had their own private support group chat, originally founded by Cyrene. Right now, the notifications were firing off non-stop.

[Tribios: Little Grey’s video is wonderfully crafted. I am quite eager to see how ‘we’ are portrayed in his mind.]

[Writing Furiously Ash.jpg]

Tribios casually tagged Ash in the chat. Even though her reverted form possessed a drastically different appearance and presence, her underlying personality remained as bright and lively as ever, bridging the gap between her past and present selves.

Lurking quietly in the chat, Keluida and Hysilens were spiraling into deep confusion. Keluida, in particular, was scratching his head. Theoretically, the game’s current timeline was set after the Golden War. If that was the case, where were the two of them? Was the Author planning some sort of massive time-reversal plotline?

Back on the livestream, the in-game narrative had already moved past Phainon’s rescue. The Spark of Strife still required a vessel, and the crushing weight of that responsibility fell squarely onto Mydei’s shoulders.

In a quiet, beautifully rendered conversation with Tribbie, Mydei finally let his guard down, expressing the deep-seated fear gnawing at his chest. Every single member of the Suspended Edge, down to the youngest child, was looking to him to lead them back to their homeland.

Seeking guidance, he sought out his master, Kratros. The reunion quickly deteriorated into a bitter argument.

“Divine power is not the same as royal authority,” Mydei argued, his voice tight with suppressed emotion. “There has to be more than one way out for our people. Strife is not our only path.”

Kratros slammed his fist down, his voice booming with ancient authority. “You know the exact situation of our people! The lone army of the Suspended Edge that followed you into exile, their children, their grandchildren… the only thing keeping their spirits alive is the desperate desire to reclaim our old glory.”

The old master stepped closer, his eyes narrowing into harsh slits. “If they knew that their revered crown prince was harboring thoughts of surrender, Mydmos, how would you ever justify that to your late mother?”

The screen slowly panned up to reveal a massive, weathered mural depicting Mydei’s parents. Guinaifen stopped chewing her snack, her eyes glued to the dialogue box.

“Wait, chat, hold on.” She pointed at the screen, her voice rising in pitch. “Mydei’s dad killed his mom?”

Sushang gasped loudly in the background. “And then Mydei killed his dad?!”

“His mom died by his dad’s hands just to stop Mydei from being thrown into the sea?” Guinaifen gripped her hair, staring blankly at the webcam. “My brain is frying. What kind of family tree is this?”

[RIP streamer’s brain cells.]

[The Author’s lore drops are heavy today, but I think I get the timeline.]

[This is a massive ethical tragedy. I’m sick.]

[Serious question: is returning to their homeland really that important? Why is the master so obsessed with it?]

[This Kratros guy is infuriating. If it were me, I’d just stay in Okhema and live a peaceful life. Why go back to a warzone?]
