Honkai Star Rail: My Chat Group is Full of Broken Timelines — Chapter 4

Chapter 4: After Making a Choice, Do Not Let Yourself Regret It

[Cliffhanger King: Apologies, everyone. I took a moment to verify a few things. In truth, I don’t know much more about our current situation than you do. However, as the Group Owner, I do have one small privilege: I can see the real names behind your nicknames.] Kazuki considered his words for a moment before sending the message.

[Fanfic Author: Is this… the legendary doxxing tool? Your Excellency, does this mean you already know my name?]

[Cliffhanger King: I’m afraid so, Miss Castorice. Though it wasn’t my intention to pry, your name is indeed known to me. Of course, the same applies to the others: the Pure Beauty Knight, Miss Robin, and Titania II, Miss Liu Ying. In the spirit of fairness, it’s only right that I provide my own name. I am from the Xianzhou Luofu, and my name is Kazuki.]

[Pure Beauty Knight: I admire your sincerity, Mr. Kazuki.]

While her public message was polite, Robin was mentally filing away every scrap of information the ‘Group Owner’revealed. She adopted the graceful, almost courtly tone befitting a’Pure Beauty Knight.’The moment she had joined the group and seen his nickname, she’d had her suspicions. Exalting Sanctum… She had performed a concert on the Luofu once; she knew the name well.’However…’she mused,’the Group Owner still hasn’t revealed the name of Emperor the Third. Is that person truly someone so monumental?’ Robin’s fingertips tapped a light, contemplative rhythm against her arm. The first two Emperors had risen from obscurity, their origins humble. Could this third-generation ruler be someone already renowned throughout the cosmos? Perhaps… someone from the Genius Society?

A specific name surfaced in her mind. ‘No, that’s impossible, isn’t it? That particular gentleman has always been dedicated to developing peace between organic and inorganic life.'[Pure Beauty Knight: However, Mr. Kazuki, is there a reason the name of the member’Emperor the Third’ cannot be disclosed?] Robin couldn’t suppress her curiosity. She felt a desperate need to know the identity of the person who, in some parallel future, might bathe the galaxy in blood.

[Cliffhanger King: It’s not a deliberate concealment.]

Kazuki chose his words carefully. [It’s just that, judging from everyone’s reactions, not all of us are familiar with the deeds of the two galactic Emperors… And please, remember what this group is called: the “Parallel World Chat Group.” There is a very high probability that we all exist in different universes. I urge everyone to remain calm and first try to understand the nature of this group.]

[Fanfic Author: Your Excellency, I’m afraid I don’t understand… The Galaxy? The Emperors you speak of…?] Castorice’s message was steeped in bewilderment. [You must all be from beyond Amphoreus, correct? I’m sorry, perhaps you’ve never heard that name. It is the world where I live.]

[Pure Beauty Knight: As you said, Miss Castorice, I have never heard of Amphoreus.] Robin replied swiftly, her tone probing. [It seems your homeworld has not yet connected with the wider galaxy?]

Kazuki watched the exchange between Robin and Castorice unfold. ‘If Amphoreus ever connects with the galaxy,’he thought with a grimace,’it would be an absolute catastrophe. The universe had better watch out, or it might get “loved to death” by my little iron-fisted queen.’

[Fanfic Author: In my world, at least, the space beyond the sky is considered taboo. Legend says the black tide that endangers our world comes from out there.]

[Pure Beauty Knight: It sounds as if your world is a very dangerous place, Miss Castorice. If you ever require assistance, I would be willing to contribute my modest efforts. Of course, I believe we should first consult our all-knowing Group Owner on this matter, to avoid a situation like the one concerning our fellow member, Emperor the Third.]

Kazuki felt an eyebrow arch. ‘This little bird…’ he thought, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. On the surface, she was politely asking for advice, but in reality, she was maneuvering him into a corner, forcing him to take a definitive stance. He wasn’t annoyed in the slightest. Since she wanted to know, he would give her the unvarnished truth.

[Cliffhanger King: My suggestion is that no member should attempt to travel to Miss Castorice’s location. It is exceedingly dangerous. As for the reason… it is a testing ground for a Genius.]

[Pure Beauty Knight: A testing ground… for a Genius?]

Robin audibly gasped, her hand flying to cover her mouth. A Genius… was it the kind of Genius she was thinking of? A testing ground? She had never imagined that Miss Castorice’s entire world was nothing more than an experiment for one of those cosmic intellects.

[Fanfic Author: Your Excellency, I don’t understand what you’re saying. Wasn’t Amphoreus, the world I live in, created by the Great All-Father Kephale?]

[System: Fanfic Author has uploaded “The Complete Mythology of Amphoreus”.]

Castorice’s message conveyed a deep-seated resistance to a statement that threatened to shatter her entire worldview. A testing ground… Back when she was studying at the Tree Court, she had observed Teacher Anaxa’s experiments. Though it was likely a different concept from what His Excellency Kazuki described, she instinctively knew it was not a good thing.

[Cliffhanger King: I understand your feelings right now, Miss Castorice. Please allow me a moment to organize my thoughts.]

What was he supposed to do? Tell them the whole truth? A part of him, the part that cherished his quiet life, screamed at him to stay silent. But another part, the part that saw these people as his fellow travelers, couldn’t bear to keep them in the dark. Once he revealed the truth about Amphoreus, his peaceful existence would be over forever.

“Whew…” Kazuki let out a long, slow breath.

“Then again,” he murmured to himself, a sense of deep relief washing over him, “from the moment this chat group appeared, a peaceful life was already a thing of the past, wasn’t it?”

In that instant, a single phrase echoed in his mind, clear and resolute. After making a choice, do not let yourself regret it…

[System: “Group Owner” Kazuki has uploaded “The Past and Present Lives of the Divine Ritual Spectator Lygus”.]

[Fanfic Author: Lord Lygus…?]

Castorice knew that name. He was the Divine Ritual Spectator who presided over the citizen assemblies at the Dawn Cloud Cliff, a figure representing absolute fairness. He held an incredibly high status in Okhema. Could he be the mastermind behind Amphoreus?

[Pure Beauty Knight: Zandall?! That’s Zandall, the father of Nous, the very first member of the Genius Society?!]

For Robin, the shocks just kept coming. First, she was pulled into a mysterious “Parallel World Chat Group.” Then, she learned of the potential birth of a third galactic tyrant. And now, she discovered that the very first Genius was still secretly running a project of galaxy-shattering proportions.

[Cliffhanger King: You see? Sometimes, knowing too much isn’t a good thing. However, there is some good news. As members of this chat group, it seems we are exempt from the lethal consequences of certain taboo actions… For example, I just spent a minute thoroughly cursing the Geniuses’ strictest mother and have remained completely unharmed.]

He was right. Just a moment ago, Kazuki had let loose a string of curses aimed at Polka Kakamu, yet no scalpel had mysteriously materialized to plunge into his back. Clearly, the group provided some level of information security.

[Pure Beauty Knight: Mr. Kazuki… your courage is admirable…]

Robin stared at the screen and swallowed, her throat suddenly dry. To curse the Lord of Silent Hill, of whom it was said, “whatever is spoken, shall be known”? She wouldn’t dare, not even if she had ten times the courage. This Group Owner from the Xianzhou… he was truly no ordinary person.

The light of the screen cast a soft glow as the chat fell silent for a long moment.

Kazuki leaned back against his headboard, his gaze drifting to the vibrant, ever-moving lights of the Exalting Sanctum outside his window. He had a feeling that from this day forward, his life was about to undergo an devastating transformation.
