Honkai Impact: My Power Grows When Valkyries Fall For Me — Chapter 63

Chapter 63: A Physical Exam and a New Regimen

Within St. Freya’s Medical Department, the air was thick with the distinctive, sterile scent of disinfectant.

Lucian had been personally escorted here by Theresa for a series of extremely thorough examinations. The tests ran the gamut, from the most basic blood draws and physical fitness assessments to advanced diagnostics mapping his Honkai Energy adaptability, the stability of his energy circuits, and the fluctuation spectrum of his psionic output.

They even conducted a detailed analysis of the follicles of his suddenly long hair.

The female doctor in charge of the examination pushed her glasses up her nose, her brow furrowed slightly as she stared at the dense arrays of data and images crowding the electronic screen.

“Based on the existing data, Mr. Lucian’s physical condition… is remarkably good.”

“All physiological indicators are within optimal ranges,” she continued, her tone precise. “Energy circulation is stable, with no signs of any disorder or erosion.”

Standing to the side, the tight knot of tension in Theresa’s shoulders eased, though the worry hadn’t entirely vanished from her expression.

“Then what’s the deal with his hair?” Theresa pressed, her gaze sweeping over Lucian’s jet-black, impossibly smooth, and noticeably overlong locks.

The doctor pulled up another analysis report, this one specifically targeting his hair follicles and quality. A hint of confusion colored her voice. “We didn’t detect any abnormalities.”

“His follicle activity, hair structure, and growth hormone levels all indicate that this is just ordinary, healthy hair… It just happened to grow to this length in a single day.”

Theresa stared silently at the data on the screen before turning her gaze back to Lucian.

He was sitting quietly on a chair, his eyelids slightly lowered, looking as if he were either a bit tired or simply lost in thought. His face held no trace of surprise at the results.

“So, aside from the hair growing a bit… unreasonably, everything else is normal?” Theresa confirmed.

“Yes, Headmaster. Mr. Lucian’s physical state is very healthy,” the doctor affirmed with a confident nod.

“Alright.” Theresa sighed and nodded in dismissal. The doctor gave a crisp salute and withdrew, leaving only the two of them in the examination room.

Theresa walked up to Lucian, tilting her small face up to look at him with a helpless air.

“You heard the report, I assume,” she said, her voice breaking the silence, now tinged with relief.

Lucian raised his head, met her gaze, and nodded. “Mhm. I told you I was perfectly healthy, didn’t I?”

“Don’t get cocky.” Theresa glared at him, a flash of annoyance in her eyes. “I haven’t settled the score with you over the Kiana incident yet. If I catch you again, I’ll kill you, you know.”

She said it as if she were joking, but Lucian could sense the sharp edge of seriousness beneath her words.

‘It seems I’ll have to be more careful not to be discovered by Theresa in the future…’he thought, then paused.’Wait, did I just have a strange thought?’

Lucian awkwardly averted his gaze. “That… was an accident. Definitely an accident.”

“It had better have been,” Theresa huffed, planting her hands on her hips. She tried her best to strike an imposing stance, but given her petite frame, the gesture only made her look more childish. “You’re both still young. You absolutely must not cross that line. Show some restraint, understand?”

“Absolutely. I won’t,” Lucian promised with a serious nod. He knew exactly what she was referring to.

Putting aside whether he would ever do such a thing, for the simple sake of this story not getting taken down, he absolutely couldn’t do that kind of thing right now…

After finishing lunch, Lucian made his way to the training room alone.

The floors of St. Freya’s Valkyrie Training Grounds were paved with a special shock-absorbing material, and the surrounding walls were embedded with energy absorption modules, more than sufficient to withstand the intensity of a Valkyrie’s daily training regimen.

Lucian had come here, naturally, to train. The last mission had thrown his deficiencies in combat into sharp relief.

Back when he worked as a Special Agent for Schicksal, his close-quarters combat skills were barely adequate. He had always figured that with his ordinary physique, he’d never have a chance to engage in a brawl anyway. His philosophy had been simple: run if you can; if you can’t, pull out a gun.

But things were different now.

Future battles were an inevitability. When facing Honkai Beasts, Herrschers, or even certain troublesome human enemies, relying solely on long-range attacks and his unique abilities would definitely leave him vulnerable.

‘No matter what…’he thought,’I should at least train my reaction speed to be a little faster, right?’

Standing in the center of the arena, he casually tied back his shoulder-length black hair with a simple black hairband provided by the facility.

“Have to start from the basics…” Lucian muttered to himself. He walked over to a control console on the side of the training field, activated the Reaction Training Mode, and picked up a specialized laser gun from a nearby rack.

A virtual light screen unfolded before his eyes. On the walls surrounding the arena, light spots of different colors began to materialize, flickering into existence at random and moving at varying speeds.

Reaction Training Mode: the most basic of courses. All he had to do was quickly and accurately shoot the light spot with the laser gun when it appeared to score points. Lucian decided to set a simple passing score of 60 for himself.

He took a deep, centering breath and focused his mind.

The first light spot appeared on the left wall—a blue orb moving upward at a medium speed.

Lucian immediately raised the laser gun and pulled the trigger. A thin red beam lanced out, striking the blue light spot dead center.

[Score +1]

A crisp electronic prompt sounded as the score on the virtual screen changed to 1.

Lucian let out a soft breath, his eyes fixed intently on the surrounding walls, scanning for the next target.

Almost immediately, the second and third light spots lit up in succession. Their colors were different, and their movement trajectories grew more complex. Some moved in straight lines, some in curves, and some changed speed abruptly, trying to throw off his aim.

His eyes darted rapidly, his finger continuously pulling the trigger.

Beams of light shot out one after another. Most found their mark, but many also missed, the result of a split-second misjudgment or a reaction that was just a hair too slow.

As time wore on, the frequency of the light spots increased, and their flight paths became increasingly tricky.

Lucian eventually stopped, breathing a little heavily, his brow furrowed as he watched the score on the virtual screen, which had long since stopped climbing and was now just a proof of his misses.

“Tch… It’s really no good.”

He habitually raised a hand to wipe the sweat from his brow, but his fingertips brushed against the hairband tied at the back of his head.

The long hair… even tied back, the ends still swung with his rapid movements and turns, creating a minor but persistent distraction.

More, he realized he lacked a true “combat instinct.”

Faced with ever-changing attack vectors, his brain needed time to analyze and judge before commanding his body to act. In real combat, that delay of a few tenths of a second could be the difference between life and death.

Just then, the automatic door to the training room slid open with a silent hiss.

A figure walked in.

She had deep purple hair tied into a neat ponytail, and her posture was perfectly upright—it was Raiden Mei.

She seemed to have come for her own daily training. Seeing Lucian there, she looked slightly taken aback before her expression softened into a gentle smile.

“Lucian? Are you training here, too?”

Lucian turned his head. Seeing Mei, he nodded. “Mhm. Wanted to practice my reaction time.”

Mei took a few steps closer, her gaze falling on the not-so-high score displayed on the virtual screen. A flash of understanding crossed her eyes.

“Reaction training… it places high demands on your coordination and instantaneous judgment.”

A wry smile touched Lucian’s lips. “You could say that. And… I really don’t seem to be very good at this.”

Mei tilted her head, thought for a moment, and then suddenly asked, “How about we try some sparring?”

“Sparring?” Lucian echoed, somewhat surprised.

“Mhm.” Mei nodded, her violet eyes still holding that gentle smile. “Sometimes, simply reacting to fixed training patterns isn’t as effective for honing practical combat reflexes as sparring with a real person. And…”

She paused, her tone laced with encouragement. “I can match your pace. We can take it slow.”
