Fairy Tail: My Magic is a Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck — Chapter 34

July 14, 2026 Calculating...

Chapter 34: Unexpected Gains

Erma Ruins Island.

A massive, slowly rotating Magic Circle cast a sweeping, ethereal glow across the darkened coastline, cutting through the dense night fog. Three heavily armored magic battleships sat anchored just offshore, the crests of the Magic Council and the Guild Alliance snapping violently in the salty sea breeze.

Upon receiving the emergency report, the Council had immediately classified the awakening of the Yakuma Eighteen War Gods as a catastrophic incident, scrambling to organize and dispatch a high-level subjugation force. However, due to the sheer bureaucratic nightmare of mobilizing such a fleet, they had only just arrived.

“What in the world is this…?”

The subjugation force stood frozen on the beach, their boots sinking into the blood-soaked sand. They stared out at an island completely terraformed by absolute devastation. Craters littered the landscape, trees were reduced to splintered ash, and the shattered, colossal corpses of the ancient Yakuma lay strewn across the ruins like broken toys.

Having braced themselves for a brutal, desperate battle—and fully expecting heavy casualties—the Rune Knights found the apocalyptic scene before them almost impossible to process. A bizarre mix of shock and overwhelming relief washed over the ranks.

The shock stemmed from the evacuated tourists’ testimonies: Chase, a single Fairy Tail Mage, had somehow managed to systematically annihilate a pantheon of ancient Fighting Gods. The relief, however, was much simpler. They had been spared from a suicide mission.

“Everyone, listen up!” The captain of the subjugation force barked, forcing down the tremor in his chest. He quickly analyzed the structural damage to the island before issuing his commands. “Maintain strict vigilance! Secure the perimeter, inspect the Yakuma corpses for any lingering curses, and sweep the island for survivors!”

It wasn’t until the Rune Knights fanned out in an orderly grid that the captain pulled his adjutant aside, his expression hardening.

“During the briefing, you mentioned that among the evacuated tourists, a civilian awakened magic eerily similar to that of a Yakuma Fighting God, nearly causing a panic on the rescue ships. What exactly happened?” he demanded in a hushed tone.

“It was a little girl, sir,” the adjutant replied, pulling out a glowing lacrima tablet. “The specific trigger for her awakening is still unknown. It appears she possessed a latent, terrifying innate talent. Simply witnessing the Yakuma’s magic in action was enough for her to comprehend and replicate its spatial properties.”

The captain’s brow furrowed deeply. “Is her background clean? Could she be a vessel? A contingency plan left behind by the Yakuma?”

“Highly unlikely, sir.” The adjutant’s expression turned grim as he read off the investigation results. “That child is the daughter of the newly appointed Guild Master of Sabertooth. Her name is…”

“Minerva Orlando?”

Meanwhile, miles away from the carnage, Chase and Mira had successfully made landfall in Hargeon.

handling through the half-constructed remnants of the port, the two Mages finally reached the town’s central district. It was already late into the night, and the last magic train back to Magnolia had departed hours ago. The adrenaline from the fierce battle had long since faded, leaving behind a heavy, clinging exhaustion in their bones.

They agreed to find a hotel for the night and deliver their official report regarding the Yakuma Eighteen War Gods to Master Makarov in the morning. Given the sheer scale of the destruction, the Council would undoubtedly launch a massive, headache-inducing investigation soon enough.

Whether the terrifying news of the Yakuma’s revival had already reached the mainland, or if Hargeon’s nightlife was simply always this bleak, the city streets were unusually deserted. Even the rowdy port taverns that typically operated until dawn had their heavy wooden doors bolted shut.

After wandering through several empty blocks, they finally spotted a flickering neon sign belonging to a modest hotel.

The owner behind the front desk was a middle-aged man with a greasy comb-over and a distinctly lecherous glint in his eye. Before Chase and Mira even fully stepped into the lobby, the man was already waving them off with an exaggerated sigh.

“I’m really sorry, sir and madam, but the inn is completely full. I was just about to take the sign down.”

Mira’s brow furrowed slightly. “If I remember correctly, hotels in Hargeon rarely hit full occupancy outside of the summer festival, right?”

“Ah, haven’t you two heard the news?” The middle-aged man leaned against the counter, shaking his head. “Something massive happened over on the nearby Galuna Island. A huge wave of fleeing tourists flooded into Hargeon earlier today. Pretty much every inn in town is packed to the rafters.”

So that’s why… Mira realized, the pieces clicking into place.

“It’s a big building. Why don’t you try to squeeze us in?” Chase asked, his voice flat. All he wanted right now was a hot shower and a mattress. He was entirely too drained to keep wandering the empty streets.

As he spoke, he casually reached into his pocket, pulled out a thick wad of Jewel, and slid it across the wooden counter.

Staring at the stack of cash—which easily amounted to several times the standard nightly rate—the middle-aged man’s eyes practically bulged out of his skull.

“Well… seeing as you two have nowhere else to go at this ungodly hour,” the owner coughed, quickly changing his tune. “How about this? I’ll free up the luxury suite that was reserved for a distinguished guest. You can take that one for the night.”

He spoke with feigned reluctance, but his hands moved with practiced speed, smoothly sweeping the cash into the register.

Just like that, Chase and Mira successfully secured a room.

The suite wasn’t overly spacious, but it was pristine. It featured a private bathroom, a lacrima-powered television, and a small balcony that offered a sweeping view of the dark ocean.

Given their close bond, and Mira’s naturally accommodating personality, she didn’t mind sharing a single room with Chase. She simply set her luggage down, grabbed a change of clothes, and headed straight for the bathroom. After all, washing off the grime of battle was a priority.

Chase stepped out onto the balcony, letting the cool sea breeze wash over him. He actively tuned out the suggestive sound of the shower running just a few feet away. With a flick of his wrist, a brand new card materialized, hovering gently in the air before him.

`[Brain Control]`

Spell Card

Effect: Can secretly control and alter a target’s consciousness. The lower the target’s Magic Power and mental fortitude, the higher the success rate of the mind control.

This was the loot dropped from defeating Sky Drum.

“A mind control spell, huh? Not bad at all,” Chase murmured, a satisfied smirk tugging at his lips. He smoothly slid the card back into his deck.

With `[Brain Control]` in his arsenal, handling future chaotic events that deviated from the original timeline—like the sudden appearance of the Yakuma—would be significantly easier. He could simply hijack the minds of pirate captains, or directly control Dark Guild Masters like Cluny without lifting a finger.

, acquiring two powerful new cards in a single day had noticeably expanded his total Magic Power reserves. It was a completely unexpected, yet highly welcome, harvest.

Soon, the sound of running water ceased. The bathroom door clicked and gently swung open.

Mira stepped out into the dim room, wrapped securely in a fluffy white bath towel. Tiny, glistening water droplets clung to her fair shoulders and collarbone. Her signature upward-pointing ponytail was gone; instead, her long, damp white hair cascaded freely down her back and framed her face, highlighting her natural curves. The soft front bangs gave her an entirely different, incredibly gentle aura.

Chase blinked, genuinely caught off guard for a second.

It wasn’t that he was completely paralyzed by her beauty—after all, Lucy had practically paraded around his living room in a similar state just last night. He simply hadn’t ever seen Mira look this… unguarded.

“Chase, it’s your turn.” Mira smiled softly, her voice perfectly calm and collected.

He gave a brief nod, grabbed his own clothes, and walked past her into the bathroom.

The absolute second the door clicked shut behind him, the forced composure on Mira’s face shattered. She collapsed onto the edge of the bed, her face burning crimson as her heart hammered wildly against her ribs.

Finally.

Naturally, Chase had surrendered the room’s only bed to Mira without a second thought, opting to make a makeshift pallet on the floor in the corner. For a guy who had spent years taking on grueling subjugation requests in deep forests and frozen mountains, a carpeted floor indoors was practically luxury.

After exchanging quiet goodnights, the room plunged into darkness.

Mira lay on the soft mattress, staring up at the ceiling. The chaotic events of the day replayed vividly in her mind. From the peaceful seaside photoshoot, to the terrifying descent of the Yakuma. From Chase arriving like a god of war to shatter the sky, to her finally breaking her own mental chains to use Take Over magic again, fighting side-by-side with the Summoned Skull.

It had only been a few hours, but the sheer emotional weight of the day made it feel longer than a week.

More, as she lay there, she realized something deep. The suffocating shadow of the past had finally lifted. She was no longer paralyzed by the thought of Lisanna.

Master Makarov and the others in the guild had tried for years to help her heal, to tell her it wasn’t her fault. But it took today to finally break the seal.

Was it really because of Chase…? she wondered, her gaze drifting toward the dark corner of the room.

Knowing that he was sleeping on the cold floor after fighting so hard to protect her, a pang of guilt—and something else—fluttered in her chest. Mira poked her head out from under the warm covers. She took a deep, steadying breath, gathered every ounce of her courage, and whispered into the dark.

“Chase… why don’t you come up here?”

Her faint, melodious voice drifted through the quiet room.

It was met with absolute, deathly silence.

Nothing happened.

Chase, thoroughly drained from pushing his Magic Power to the limit, had passed out the exact second his head hit the makeshift pillow. He was completely dead to the world.

“What an idiot…” Mira sighed, a helpless, affectionate smile touching her lips.

She quietly slipped out of bed, padded softly across the room, and gently draped an extra blanket over his sleeping form.
