Fairy Tail: My Magic is a Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck — Chapter 13

July 14, 2026 Calculating...

Chapter 13: A Super Reliable Guild Master

“Guild Master, didn’t you promise yesterday that you’d help me clean up this mess?”

Facing the towering, furious form of Makarov Dreyar, Chase’s usual confident momentum wavered. He rubbed the back of his neck, muttering his defense under his breath.

“You’ve kicked over the hornet’s nest, set the entire tree on fire, and now you expect this old man to sweep up the ashes?!” Makarov roared, his voice rattling the wooden beams of the guild hall. His rage was so evident that thick plumes of steam practically billowed from his nostrils, looking for all the world like he was about to unleash a Fire Dragon’s Roar of his own.

“Oh, come on, the real culprit for destroying the town was that Fire Dragon,” Chase argued, raising his hands in a placating gesture. “I’ve been a perfectly law-abiding citizen out there.”

“Hmm?!” The Giant Makarov leaned in, casting a massive, intimidating shadow over the S-Class Mage.

“Alright, fine, I did it…” Chase scratched his head, dropping his voice into a serious register. “But to complete that Ten Year Quest, the entire town had to be leveled. It was an unavoidable step in the process.”

As a notoriously brutal quest that had sat untouched for a decade, its scale and danger naturally eclipsed any ordinary job. The parameters of Chase’s mission were far more complicated than anyone had anticipated; the total destruction of the town was essentially a prerequisite for success.

It was during this chaotic process—whether through sheer bad luck or twisted fortune—that he had accidentally awakened Ignia, who had been in a deep state of self-sealing. A catastrophic chain of events had immediately followed.

Giant Makarov stared down with wide, unblinking eyes, studying Chase’s face.

After a long, tense silence, the suffocating magical pressure that had filled the Fairy Tail guild hall began to dissipate. At a speed visible to the naked eye, Makarov’s massive, imposing figure shrank down, returning to the familiar appearance of a short, balding old man.

As the patriarch of the Fairy Tail family, Makarov understood Chase perfectly. The kid loved to mess around and cause a scene, but he was by no means a loose cannon who acted without a bottom line. If Chase said it was necessary, Makarov chose to believe him unconditionally.

“Regardless of your reasons, you took it too far this time,” Makarov sighed, his shoulders slumping. He bent down to retrieve a several-centimeter-thick stack of documents from the floor, brushing the dust off the parchment with a deeply worried expression. “This incident involves two different kingdoms. The fallout is going to be a massive headache.”

“Guild Master, if the Magic Council has any complaints, just point me in their direction. I’ll go over and have a little ‘talk’ with them directly,” Chase offered, patting his chest with a confident grin.

“Not only did you dismantle a town in the Ogarso Kingdom, but now you want to dismantle the Magic Council too?!” Makarov shot Chase a withering glare. He rolled up the stack of official complaints, tucked them behind his back, and turned around. The moment his back was to Chase, the old man’s gaze sharpened into deadly steel.

“Don’t worry,” Makarov said, his voice quiet but carrying an obvious weight. “This old man isn’t so incompetent that he’d push his own children out into the storm to face the wolves.”

He glanced over his shoulder, a fierce, defiant smirk crossing his wrinkled face. “With me standing here, let’s see which of the Council’s lapdogs dares to bark at my family!”

Internally, he would scold, scream, and even deliver a merciless physical beating to his guild members. But externally? Makarov Dreyar was famously, fiercely protective of his own. He would absolutely never allow an outsider to lay a finger on a Fairy Tail mage.

Looking at the small figure draped in the mantle of the Ten Wizard Saints, Chase blinked in surprise before a warm, relaxed smile spread across his face.

“As expected. You’re super reliable, Guild Master.”

“Reliable my foot! If you’ve got time to stand around being bored, hurry up and find a job to earn your keep! Just looking at your face is giving me a migraine!” Makarov’s demeanor flipped in an instant, spitting angrily as he waved Chase off.

“Understood!” Chase nodded heavily, snapping a playful salute.

“Speaking of quests, Chase, a designated request actually came in specifically for you today.”

Mirajane appeared at the perfect moment, her soft voice cutting through the lingering tension. She gently grabbed Chase’s sleeve and guided him toward the bustling quest board.

Seeing the situation handled, Makarov shook his head and slowly trudged up the stairs to the second floor. It wasn’t until his hunched back disappeared around the corner that the remaining tension in the guild hall completely evaporated, replaced instantly by chaotic cheering.

“Hey, hey! Chase, did you really wipe out half a town?!”

“That’s so badass! Now even the Guiltina Continent across the ocean knows not to mess with Fairy Tail!”

“What a man! As expected of our guild’s resident Destruction King!”

The guild members swarmed around him, their faces flushed with excitement and absolute awe. This rowdy celebration formed a hilariously sharp contrast to Makarov, who was currently squatting in a dark corner on the second floor, clutching his head in despair.

“You’re all a bunch of idiots,” Cana muttered, rolling her eyes at the cheering crowd. Having just sobered up from her morning binge, she immediately hoisted a massive wooden barrel of booze and started gulping it down again.

Unlike the wild ambitions of her guildmates, Cana’s entire reason for joining Fairy Tail could be summarized in one tragic, simple goal: finding her deadbeat dad.

Over at the bulletin board, Chase leveled an intimidating glare at the rowdier members, successfully scattering the crowd so he could actually read. He turned his attention back to the white-haired barmaid. “Mira, what’s this designated quest you mentioned?”

“Right here,” Mirajane smiled warmly, reaching into her cleavage to pull out a neatly folded quest slip.

Chase took the parchment, blinking in surprise at the residual warmth, and unfolded it. One glance at the contents told him exactly why this had been sent directly to him.

[Client: Sorcerer Weekly]

[Quest Content: Having heard that Mr. Chase has ended his long journey and returned to Fiore, our magazine cordially invites Miss Dark Magician Girl to be the exclusive cover model for our upcoming issue.]

[Quest Reward: 200,000 Jewel]

“Two hundred thousand Jewel? That’s a pretty serious payout for a photoshoot,” Chase whistled, impressed.

In the Fiore Kingdom, a reward of that size was usually reserved for subjugation quests carrying a genuine risk of death—something on par with Macao heading into the mountains to repel a violent Snow Vulcan.

“It makes sense,” Mirajane explained, tapping her chin with a flawless finger. “In Sorcerer Weekly, Dark Magician Girl has held the number one spot on the ‘Most Anticipated Returning Female Mage’ rankings for months. This morning, we even had a fresh batch of fan mail delivered to the guild just for her.”

Mirajane herself wasn’t overly interested in modeling for Sorcerer Weekly, though she occasionally accepted shoots just to earn some extra pocket change for cute clothes. But she knew that Chase’s situation with his unique magic was a bit more complicated.

Hearing Mirajane mention the magazine’s rankings, Chase suddenly remembered his own former glory. “Wait, what about the Destruction King rankings? Is my name still at the top?”

Mirajane rested her cheek in her hand, thinking for a moment before offering an awkward, polite smile. “Right now… those top spots are basically being monopolized by Natsu and Gray.”

“Damn it!” Chase clenched his fists, his competitive spirit flaring up.

“Uh, I don’t think that’s a ranking you should be fighting over…” Mirajane sweatdropped, dark lines appearing on her forehead.

“I can’t get complacent. I have to take back the throne that rightfully belongs to me!” Chase declared, completely missing her point. He looked back down at the flyer in his hand. “As for this quest… I guess I’ll just have to ask her directly.”

With a flick of his wrist, a card materialized from the void into his fingertips. Channeling his magic, he summoned his Duelist’s Soul.

A brilliant burst of pink and gold magical light illuminated the guild hall. As the sparkling dust settled, Dark Magician Girl appeared, twirling her staff before striking a cute, dynamic pose.

“Mira! It’s been so long!”

The moment her bright blue eyes locked onto the barmaid, Dark Magician Girl’s face lit up with a radiant smile. She lunged forward like an affectionate puppy, wrapping her arms around Mirajane and happily rubbing her cheek against the older girl’s shoulder.

“It really has been a long time, Dark Magician Girl,” Mirajane laughed softly, showing no resistance as she hugged the magical girl back. “I haven’t seen you in over a year. You seem to have grown quite a bit.”

It was obvious to anyone watching that the two shared a deep bond. Perhaps because of the lingering, unspoken pain of losing Lisanna, Mirajane had naturally gravitated toward Dark Magician Girl, treating the bubbly blonde like her own precious younger sister.

After the two girls finished their affectionate reunion, Chase stepped in, waving the Sorcerer Weekly flyer in front of his partner.

“We got a request for you to be the cover girl for the next issue. What do you think? Feel like taking it?”
