Danmachi: The Focalors Familia — Chapter 32

Chapter 32: Second Magic

The setting sun bled across the horizon, casting a sorrowful golden hue over the sprawling graveyard.

Noah stood beside Luke, his gaze resting on the newly erected tombstone. A heavy silence stretched between them, thick with the lingering scent of turned earth and unspoken grief. Although they were merely acquaintances brought together by fleeting chance, they had shared the brutal reality of the Dungeon. They had survived together, and that forged a silent bond.

Noah reached out, his hand resting firmly on Luke’s trembling shoulder. A thousand words of comfort surfaced in his mind, but they all felt hollow against the weight of death. Ultimately, they condensed into a quiet, grounded murmur. “My condolences.”

Luke did not turn around. He kept his hollow stare fixed on the carved stone. “Noah,” he began, his voice dry and cracked. “I am done being an Adventurer.”

Noah remained silent, letting the man speak.

“Her name was Lina,” Luke continued, speaking to the air as if the graveyard were entirely empty. “We were a couple. We fought side by side in our Familia. Now, everyone who carried our emblem is dead. I am the only one left.” He swallowed hard, his shoulders slumping under an invisible burden. “I am taking my deity, and we are leaving Orario. We will find some quiet corner in the outside world to live out our days. The Dungeon… it has no place for a weakling like me.”

Only then did he turn to face Noah. For the first time since the tragedy, a faint glimmer of light pierced the bloodshot ruin of his eyes. It was a heavy, complex gaze, brimming with raw gratitude and a desperate plea.

“Thank you for helping me find justice, Noah. I have nothing left to offer you in return.” Luke offered a broken, bitter smile. “You are strong. I can see it. Your talent eclipses those of us struggling in the mud at the bottom. You are going to become someone who shakes this entire world. We haven’t known each other long, but I know this in my bones.”

He drew in a long, ragged breath, gathering the very last of his strength.

“Carry my share of hope. Keep… and become a hero.”

Without waiting for a response, Luke turned his back. His footsteps were unsteady, dragging against the dirt as he walked the lonely path out of the graveyard. In the distance, a petite deity waited quietly in the fading light. That was his last remaining family.

Noah watched the broken man walk away until the shadows swallowed him completely.

Turning his attention back to the endless rows of cold stone, Noah felt a deep stillness wash over him. Beneath every marker lay a life that had once burned bright, an Adventurer who had bled for their dreams. This silent field was the only proof they had ever existed.

For the first time, the true, crushing weight of the title “Adventurer” settled into Noah’s bones.

Despite having transmigrated to this world years ago, he had always felt a strange detachment from it. Aside from Alfia, nothing here had ever felt entirely real. An invisible film had always separated him from the people around him, leaving him as a wandering bystander in a story that wasn’t his. That detachment was exactly why his fixation on Alfia had grown so obsessive; she was the only anchor of reality he could grasp in an alien world.

The arrival of Furina, Robin, and Tifa had chased away his loneliness, bringing warmth and color to his days. Yet, that deep-seated obsession within his soul had remained.

Now, standing in the graveyard, having witnessed the absolute ruin of an ordinary Adventurer and accepting his final entrustment, that invisible film shattered.

A sudden, searing heat flared across his back. It was Furina’s divine blood, pulsing and boiling beneath his skin, reacting to the shift in his very soul.

It was time to go home and update his Status.

The moment Noah pushed open the door to their residence, the rich, savory aroma of home-cooked food washed over him, instantly banishing the evening chill and the lingering shadows of the graveyard.

Robin and Tifa had prepared a feast. Chunks of meat simmered in a thick, steaming broth, perfectly roasted vegetables glistened with fragrant spices, and the dining table felt like a hearth of life.

“Welcome back, Noah.” Tifa untied her apron, a soft, welcoming smile gracing her lips. “Come sit. Tell me what you think of the food.”

“Just smelling it makes my mouth water. Tifa, you are an absolute lifesaver.” Furina was already seated at the table, her eyes sparkling with theatrical anticipation. She took a delicate bite of the stewed meat, and her expression instantly melted into pure bliss.

“This… what kind of culinary sorcery is this?” Furina stood up abruptly, placing her hands on her hips. She pointed dramatically at Tifa, her voice ringing with absolute authority. “Every dish is a carefully arranged musical movement, orchestrating a flawless performance on the tip of the tongue! I have decided. Tifa Lockhart, from this day forward, you are the glorious chief personal chef of the Focalors Familia!”

Tifa blinked, a dusting of pink rising to her cheeks at the sudden, grandiose appointment. “If everyone enjoys it, I would be more than happy to cook for you all.”

“Enjoy it? I adore it.” Furina narrowed her eyes in utter satisfaction, sitting back down to claim another bite.

Robin watched the exchange from the side, her lake-green eyes curving with quiet amusement. “It truly is wonderful, Tifa. Thank you for all your hard work.”

Noah took his seat and began to eat. The warm, mellow flavors flooded his senses, immediately melting away the physical and mental exhaustion of the day. He watched the scene unfold before him. He saw Tifa’s genuine, radiant smile as her efforts were praised, and the last remnants of the graveyard’s gloom faded from his mind.

If Furina’s core justice was survival, Noah’s was self, and Robin’s was protecting the weak, then Tifa’s justice was undoubtedly family. She craved a home, a safe harbor where she could freely offer her warmth and strength.

The Focalors Familia had become exactly that.

Once the plates were cleared, the long-awaited Status update session began.

As the newest member, Tifa went into the room first. A short while later, she emerged, holding the parchment that detailed her growth.

[Name]: Tifa Lockhart

Next, Furina called Robin inside. Robin hadn’t updated her Falna in a few days, and the accumulated growth was staggering.

[Name]: Robin

[Rank]: Lv.1

Finally, it was Noah’s turn.

He stepped into the room, smoothly pulling his shirt over his head before lying face down on the bed. Furina was entirely accustomed to this routine by now. The days of her blushing furiously at the sight of his bare skin were long gone. She hopped onto the bed with practiced agility, straddling his lower back. Pricking her finger, she let a drop of her divine blood fall onto his skin, tracing the complex patterns of his Falna to initiate the update.

A second later, a sharp gasp escaped Furina’s lips.

“What is it?”

Hearing the sudden cry, Robin and Tifa pushed the door open, stepping quickly into the room.

Their eyes immediately fell on Noah’s bare upper body. The sight of his broad shoulders, the sharply defined ridges of muscle, and the sheer, coiled power radiating from his back caused a sudden flush to spread across both their faces. They instinctively averted their gazes, yet found their eyes drawn back to the striking display of masculine strength.

“It’s his Magic,” Furina breathed, her voice trembling with absolute disbelief. “Noah… you’ve awakened a second Magic. How is this even possible so soon?”

Furina hadn’t spent her days entirely idle. She had poured over countless Guild texts and historical records regarding Adventurers. She knew perfectly well that acquiring Magic—without the use of astronomically expensive Grimoires—was a miracle usually reserved for leveling up, requiring immense personal experience and untapped potential.
