Chapter 24: Garden of Silence

Further away, lumbering through the shadows of the Dungeon, were the hulking figures of Rock Shield Hilichurls. They wielded massive, jagged shields forged from solid stone, their heavy footsteps echoing rhythmically against the cavern floor as they slowly advanced.

Above them, the air vibrated with a menacing hum. Several Chariot-class Honkai Beasts hovered in the gloom, their mosquito-like forms clad in pale, bone-white carapaces streaked with glowing pink patterns. Their translucent wings beat in a frenzied blur, emitting a sharp, grating buzz as they circled, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

It was a terrifyingly well-coordinated vanguard—a lethal mix of long-range artillery, mid-range skirmishers, and heavy frontline bruisers, dominating both the ground and the air.

“Robin, watch out for those rockets!”

Noah’s low, commanding shout cut through the tension. Before the words even finished echoing, his body was already a blur of motion.

He didn’t bother trying to block the incoming barrage. Relying entirely on his explosive agility, Noah wove smoothly through the labyrinth of jagged stalagmites. The first volley of incendiary rockets slammed into the stone behind him, showering the area in harmless sparks.

Facing the frenzied Charging Hilichurls that sprinted toward him, he suppressed his magic. Instead, his hand dropped to his hip.

With a sharp metallic ring, his longsword cleared its scabbard, leaving a brilliant streak of silver light in its wake.

Noah didn’t retreat a single step. He surged forward, meeting the vanguard head-on. At the exact moment of impact, he contorted his body at an impossible angle, slipping past a brutal swing. His blade carved a vicious, rising arc, cleanly severing the wrist of the Hilichurl gripping the blazing wooden club.

The monster shrieked in agony as its burning weapon tumbled away into the darkness.

Noah didn’t give it a fraction of a second to recover. He closed the distance instantly, driving a devastating elbow strike straight into its sternum. The sheer kinetic force shattered its ribs and sent it staggering backward. Without missing a beat, Noah pivoted, sweeping his blade in a flawless horizontal arc that sent the creature’s masked head spinning into the air.

Without even glancing at the falling corpse, he smoothly brought his sword up in a backhand guard, parrying a desperate lunge from a second Charging Hilichurl. Using the momentum of the clash, he vaulted backward, creating distance as that destructive, world-shattering syllable slipped past his lips once more.

“Gospel!”

An invisible, hyper-compressed shockwave of sound erupted from him. It tore across the cavern, slamming with pinpoint accuracy into a Pyro Hilichurl Shooter perched on a distant stone platform. The creature didn’t even have the chance to scream before the sheer concussive force pulverized it, reducing both the monster and its crossbow to a spray of ash and splinters.

But the moment he channeled his magic, a Chariot-class Honkai Beast that had been lurking in the high shadows seized its opening.

It folded its wings and dove, transforming into a streak of deadly white lightning. Striking from Noah’s absolute blind spot, it hurtled down at a terrifying velocity, its razor-sharp mouthparts aimed directly at his heart.

The piercing whistle of displaced air warned of the lethal ambush.

Yet, in the face of this sudden, fatal strike, Noah’s expression remained perfectly calm. There was not a single trace of panic in his eyes.

Having spent years surviving Alfia’s merciless, unimaginable training sessions, his combat instincts had been honed to a supernatural edge. His perception of danger was absolute.

More, he wasn’t fighting alone.

He had a partner he trusted with his life.

Just as the Honkai Beast closed the final few inches, poised to skewer him—

“Resound!”

A crisp, elegant chant echoed through the cavern. Though cast a fraction of a second later, the magic arrived first. A concentrated wave of sonic energy slammed directly into the flank of the diving Chariot-class Honkai Beast with flawless precision.

Under the brutal, high-frequency impact, the Honkai Beast’s reinforced carapace instantly fractured, a web of deep cracks spreading across its white shell. Its terrifying momentum was violently arrested. It lost all balance in mid-air, tumbling helplessly before crashing into the hard stone floor.

Noah turned his head, his gaze meeting Robin’s vibrant, lake-green eyes.

The two shared a fleeting, tacit smile—a silent understanding forged in the heat of battle.

But the rhythm of the slaughter didn’t pause.

Noah casually finished off the twitching Honkai Beast with a brutal downward thrust of his sword, immediately locking his sights on the massive elemental Slimes gathering at the rear.

The Large Pyro Slime was rapidly accumulating thermal energy, its swollen, gelatinous body glowing like a miniature volcano on the verge of eruption. Beside it, the Large Cryo Slime was freezing the ambient moisture, condensing jagged spikes of ice across the cavern floor, while the Large Geo Slime lumbered forward with the unstoppable weight of a moving fortress.

“Gospel.”

Noah invoked Alfia’s magic once more. The invisible sonic bombardment tore through the air, slamming squarely into the Large Pyro Slime.

This time, however, the result wasn’t absolute destruction.

The massive Slime’s viscous, highly condensed elemental body acted as a shock absorber. Though the sheer force of the sound wave knocked it skidding backward, it failed to obliterate the creature in a single strike.

At that exact moment, Robin moved.

She raised her hand, her slender fingers tracing a series of graceful, fluid arcs through the damp Dungeon air.

“Resound!”

A barrage of piercing sonic blades shot from her fingertips. Instead of wasting energy on the heavily armored Geo Slime, she carefully targeted the remaining Pyro Hilichurl Shooters that were still attempting to loose flaming arrows from the high ground.

The focused sound waves effortlessly bypassed their crude wooden armor, detonating violently from within. One by one, the annoying long-range snipers were systematically erased from the battlefield.

Noah instantly understood her tactical shift.

He stopped wasting his mana trying to brute-force the Large Slimes and immediately redirected his focus to the Rock Shield Hilichurls, who were steadily advancing like an impenetrable wall of stone.

Taking a deep, measured breath, Noah lowered his center of gravity and pulled his longsword back to his side.

“Gospel!”

Rather than a concentrated, linear beam, he shaped the magic into a wide, invisible shockwave. The concussive blast erupted forward, sweeping across the cavern floor.

The immense kinetic force slammed into the two leading Rock Shield Hilichurls, violently flipping their heavy frames backward and exposing their unprotected flanks.

Noah vanished from where he stood. Like an arrow loosed from a taut bowstring, he blurred past the overturned monsters.

His silver blade danced in the dim light, tracing a lethal arc that slipped perfectly into the narrow gap between the heavy stone shield and the Hilichurl’s torso. With a sickening crunch, he severed the creature’s shield-bearing arm entirely.

Stripped of its impenetrable defense, the burly monster was nothing more than a lamb waiting for the slaughter.

Noah didn’t even bother to look back as he reversed his grip, driving the blade backward and straight through the creature’s dark heart.

Just then, the piercing shriek of another Chariot-class Honkai Beast echoed from above as it initiated a steep dive.

This time, Robin’s magic detonated perfectly along its flight path, violently knocking the beast off its trajectory.

That momentary stagger was all Noah needed.

He kicked off the ground, launching himself high into the air. With a stunning, mid-air contortion, he brought his sword down in a devastating vertical cleave, splitting the Honkai Beast—and its vibrating wings—cleanly in two.

The moment his boots touched the stone floor, a wave of blistering heat washed over his flank.

It was the Large Pyro Slime. It had finally finished its charge, its swollen body convulsing as it spewed forth a massive, searing fireball that illuminated the cavern in a hellish orange glow.

Noah didn’t dodge or evade. He merely chanted once more.

“Peace of Soul.”

A layer of hyper-dense, nearly transparent sound waves instantly enveloped his body, solidifying into an invisible, impregnable armor. The moment the raging fireball collided with the barrier, it was snuffed out like a popped balloon, silently annihilated into wisps of harmless steam.

Garden of Silence—Alfia’s signature defensive attachment magic.

As the flames vanished, Noah was already surging forward. He closed the gap in a heartbeat, his longsword thrusting straight into the gelatinous mass, accurately piercing the pulsating magic stone buried deep within the Large Pyro Slime’s core.

Amidst the chaotic aftermath of the clash, a stray gust of wind from the magical explosions caught the edge of Robin’s cloak, inadvertently blowing her hood back. Her soft, silver-purple hair cascaded down her shoulders like a waterfall of silk, catching a dreamlike, ethereal luster in the Dungeon’s phosphorescent light.

Her breathtakingly beautiful face—a visage elegant enough to make even the gods of Orario lose their composure—was laid bare to the cool cavern air, entirely devoid of concealment.

As the core of the final Large Cryo Slime was shattered by the combined, flawless efforts of Noah and Robin, the brief but hyper-lethal skirmish finally drew to a close.

It was a display of combat so perfect it bordered on art. And every single second of it had been quietly observed by two figures, hidden deep within the shadows of the stalagmites just a short distance away.
