Chapter 31: Robbing the Rich to Help the Poor

A strange, chilling laugh cut through the night. The muscular thugs froze, a collective shiver running down their spines. The man before them… he suddenly seemed far more monstrous than any of them could ever hope to be.

In the blink of an eye, Nagumo vanished.

A series of sickening, wet thuds echoed through the alley as he reappeared, moving between them like a phantom. One by one, they collapsed without a sound.

After methodically relieving them of their storage bags, Nagumo stepped back to inspect his haul. He couldn’t help but smirk, recalling an old saying: a horse never grows fat on its regular feed, and a man never gets rich without a windfall. The spirit stones, Beast Cores, and spiritual herbs inside were surprisingly valuable—enough to fund three more simulations.

His gaze drifted to the gaudy entrance of the club. If mere street-level thugs were this well-equipped, what kind of treasures would their headquarters hold? There had to be a vault inside.

He slipped through the doors like a shadow. His stealth was short-lived. A guard spotted him almost immediately.

“Who the hell are you?” the man barked. “This is a private club!”

Before Nagumo could answer, the man’s body began to warp. His fingers elongated into vicious claws, coarse red fur erupted across his skin, and his eyes blazed with the vertical pupils of a predator. In seconds, he had become a hulking, humanoid tiger.

This wasn’t a natural awakening or a Divine Ability. It was the grotesque result of forbidden technology—the forced fusion of a human with a monster, creating a twisted chimera.

The technology had a dark history. Initially hailed as a breakthrough, it was quickly discovered that the user’s human consciousness was often consumed by their new bestial instincts. The breaking point came after a horrifying incident where a family man, after undergoing the transformation, devoured his own wife and three children. The resulting public outcry led to a global ban.

For some reason, the tech had found a new home with the anti-human organization known as the Beast God Cult. Unsurprisingly, its origins could be traced back to the Western Alliance—a region whose public security was notoriously lax. Skirmishes with the Beast God Cult were a weekly occurrence there.

Nagumo watched the humanoid tiger lunge, a guttural roar tearing from its throat. He had no time for words.

With a casual flick of his wrist, he delivered a single, open-palmed slap.

The creature’s charge came to an abrupt halt as it was sent flying, embedding itself so deeply into the opposite wall that it left a man-shaped crater in the plaster.

He proceeded with his ‘grand assassination,’ which mostly consisted of a silent, one-sided slaughter. With each cultist he dispatched, he conveniently relieved them of their storage bags.

At the top floor, in a lavish office, he found the club’s manager. She was a striking woman in a fiery red dress, a true femme fatale.

The term, in her case, was brutally literal.

Her lower body was not human but the thick, coiling tail of a serpent. As she turned to face him, her head morphed, her jaw unhinging as her face stretched into the monstrous visage of a snake, revealing a cavernous mouth lined with fangs.

Nagumo remained silent. A subtle crackle of energy enveloped his hand as he channeled a sliver of his Magnetic Field Power. He blurred forward, striking her on the side of the head with a precise Hell Hand Blade. She crumpled to the floor, unconscious.

He needed her alive. He had questions, and he intended to get answers—starting with how many Beast God Cult strongholds were hidden in this city.

After knocking her out, Nagumo nonchalantly settled into the plush, rotating boss’s chair and began to examine his latest haul. As he opened one storage bag after another, a frown creased his brow.

These people were poor. Pathetically so.

Compared to the thugs outside, the combined spirit stones of everyone inside—including the manager—didn’t even amount to half of what those first few had been carrying. The other resources were even more pitiful: a few life-saving pills, some Blood Explosion Pills that burned one’s life force for a temporary power boost, and a handful of low-grade talismans. Even this snake-woman, the strongest person here, was practically destitute.

All told, his grand raid had only netted him enough for ten simulation attempts.

Sighing, Nagumo looked at the unconscious femme fatale. He reached down, placing his hand on her head. Combining his Magnetic Field Power with a Soul Searching Technique, he ripped the information directly from her mind.

A chaotic flood of memories, images, and sensations assaulted him, flickering past his consciousness like a broken film projector. Slowly, the fragmented pieces coalesced into a coherent, and horrifying, picture.

The Beast God Cult was in league with the Violent Bear Clan.

They were constructing a massive formation across the city, designed to tear open a temporary teleportation gate. Through this gate, the princes of the Violent Bear Clan would arrive. Their goal was simple and monstrous: to devour the city’s populace and consume the Providence of the human race, using it to forge an unmatched foundation for their own power.

The cult’s high-ranking members, still recovering from old injuries, saw this as a golden opportunity. The city-wide blood sacrifice would not only heal their wounds and advance their cultivation but also give them a chance to steal the royal bloodline of the Violent Bear Clan for themselves. Once the bears were unleashed and the city descended into chaos, they would pin the entire catastrophe on the Huaxia authorities, who would be too busy dealing with the monsters to ever suspect the cult’s involvement.

As a bonus, they planned to kidnap promising students and children during the mayhem, brainwashing them to become the next generation of cultists.

His hand still resting on her head, Nagumo casually channeled another Hell Hand Blade, bisecting the snake-woman from crown to tail. Her usefulness had ended.

Among the stolen memories was a complete map detailing the Beast God Cult’s operations in the city. Besides this club, there were three other major strongholds.

But first, he would claim the resources here. The memories confirmed his initial suspicion: to power the massive teleportation formation, each stronghold was stockpiling a vast amount of materials. A genuine smile touched Nagumo’s lips. It seemed he was about to get rich after all.

He descended into the basement.

While the club above was merely gaudy, the space below was vast and grim. It was a dungeon. Rows upon rows of large cages, each draped with a heavy black cloth, filled the space. Suppressed, guttural roars and the thick, cloying stench of wild animals hung heavy in the air.

Nagumo let a sliver of his true aura leak out.

The cacophony of growls and snarls instantly ceased. A deep, deathly silence fell over the basement, so absolute you could hear the dust motes settling.

Without hesitation, he strode forward. As he passed each cage containing a ferocious beast or twisted monster, the creature inside simply died, its life extinguished by the sheer pressure of his presence.

Beyond the menagerie of beasts, he entered a cleaner, though no less grim, section of the basement. The captives here were not monsters, but humans. They were the lucky ones, it seemed. The cult hadn’t yet subjected them to the horrific fusion surgeries or begun the brainwashing process.

They were bound tightly, gagged and stuffed together. Some were crammed into cages, while others were grotesquely sealed in large ceramic jars.

As his Divine Sense swept the area, Nagumo’s expression flickered. He recognized several of the captives.

He strode purposefully toward one particular cage and ripped away the black cloth.

Inside, bound tightly with coarse ropes, was a beautiful girl with a familiar, defiant glare.

It was Yumiko Miura, one of his classmates.
