Chapter 27: The Calm Before the Storm

[You only conceived of this plan after conducting an observation of fate.]

[In that original timeline, or perhaps in a parallel world you glimpsed, Pardofelis was able to deliver Prometheus into the Cocoon of Finality, where she then became the Will of Honkai.]

[A backdoor can be opened within the Cocoon.]

[Through self-sacrifice, Elysia can bestow humanity upon the Herrschers of the next era.]

[Your plan is for everyone to restrain the Herrscher of Finality’s movements from the outside.]

[That will be the moment when the Cocoon of Finality is at its most vulnerable.]

[Pardofelis will open the door, sending Elysia and Prometheus into the Cocoon. With Prometheus providing support, Elysia will seize the authority of the Cocoon of Finality in one decisive move.]

[Finality is a beginning; Origin is an ending.]

[In your simulated calculations, the probability of success is 90%.]

You were constantly troubled by that remaining 10% chance, a sliver of doubt born from the original timeline you had observed. The Honkai events experienced by that other world were completely different from the ones you were currently facing.

You had to remind yourself that in that other history, after the Eleventh Herrscher, only three cities remained that could still be called civilized. The rest of the world was nothing but ruins.

As for the sheer intensity of the Honkai, your observations led you to believe that the threat in your current timeline was actually greater. The difference was that here, the Honkai had been given no room to truly unfold its devastation; its Cores were often extracted by your own hand before they could fully manifest.

Ultimately, you decided the worry was unnecessary. Whether the plan would succeed or fail could only be determined by seeing it through.

The entire Sea of Quanta Frontline began to operate with grim efficiency, entering a state of total combat readiness.

The year that followed was largely peaceful, punctuated only by minor Honkai events that were swiftly dealt with. You understood this tranquility for what it was: the deep, silent breath before the plunge. The calm before the storm.

Then, on the day of the Lunar New Year… it began.

[An inspector from the Lunar Base has sent a report: a massive concentration of Honkai energy has been detected, beginning to condense on the far side of the moon.]

You knew, with a certainty that settled deep in your bones, that the time had come.

For an entire year, you had practiced your Magnetic Field Power with every ounce of your being. Your strength had now reached the world of the 49 Heavens, just a single, fleeting opportunity away from breaking through to the 50th Heaven. You were confident that the descent of the Honkai itself would provide the catalyst you needed to achieve that qualitative change—to break through to 500,000 Volts.

More, during this year of intense cultivation, you had drawn upon your own experiences, the countless worlds you had lived through, and the fragmented memories of others. With this wealth of knowledge, you successfully completed the cultivation of the Hell War God.

However, unlike the legends where the Hell War God was a separate, sentient entity one could converse with, yours was different. You had to control it with a split consciousness, a technique you reverse-engineered by studying Vill-V’s own fractured personalities. It was a viable, if mentally taxing, solution. But because your Magnetic Field Power had not yet reached the required standard, manifesting the avatar still consumed your very lifespan.

As the many MANTIS warriors prepared to head for the moon, you singled out Mobius, Aponia, Eden, and the others from the crowd. Then, climbing aboard your locomotive, you blazed a trail of light and energy, arriving directly on the lunar surface.

Your eyes fell upon the completed Moonlight Throne. You recalled the version you had observed from the parallel world, and a grim sense of scale settled in. The one before you, with Vill-V at its helm, was a full two-and-a-half times larger.

Everyone gathered on the far side of the moon, a small bastion of humanity against the silent, star-dusted dark. Those who were prone to fear were still afraid, their anxiety a evident hum in the air. Pardofelis, in particular, was extremely nervous, her body wound as tight as a string. She was, after all, the core of this entire operation.

You walked over to her, your footsteps silent on the lunar dust. You reached out and gently stroked her twitching cat ears.

Pardo’s body went rigid in an instant, a startled gasp catching in her throat. But when she saw it was you, the tension flowed out of her like a released spring. Her cat tail, which had been tucked between her legs, began to sway back and forth behind her.

“Don’t worry, Pardo,” you said softly, your voice a quiet anchor in the vast emptiness. “It’ll be fine. We’re going to survive.”

Hearing your words, Pardo seemed to relax completely, and she gave you a small, shaky nod. “I know, Brother Nagumo. I’m just… a little nervous. Aren’t you nervous at all?”

Gazing out at the endless cosmic mix, you slowly shook your head. “To say I’m not nervous would be a lie. But I firmly believe that humanity can triumph over nature. This is just a trial—a trial for all of us.”

Your tone shifted then, taking on a note of deep, theatrical melancholy. “It does make me feel quite regretful, though. It’s a pity that not a single person could complete the Magnetic Field Training Method I wrote.”

Pardo’s eyebrows twitched at your words. She had seen the manual for that training method. It was truly inconceivable—controlling electromagnetic force through sheer willpower, constructing complex magnetic field movements within one’s own body. Though she had been illiterate when she first joined the Flame-Chasers, her ability to learn had skyrocketed after receiving the gene-modifying serum. She understood the terrifying consequences of attempting such a thing; she just hadn’t expected that Brother Nagumo would actually succeed.

At that moment, you turned to look at her dazed expression and stroked her cat ears again. “You’re not so nervous now, are you?”

Pardo was stunned for a moment. Her tail flicked twice behind her, and her ears twitched under your touch. A faint blush dusted her cheeks. Then, fumbling in her pocket, she took out a small, worn coin and presented it to you.

“Brother Nagumo, this is for you. May good luck always be with you.”

You didn’t refuse. You took the coin from her palm, its metal cool against your skin. With a practiced motion, you flipped it gently into the air and caught it, closing your hand around it. “I’ve received your blessing.”

Next, you visited the others, offering quiet words of comfort and reassurance.

In return, you received many things: a small, unassuming badge from Kevin; a simple harmonica from the quiet child, Kosma; a jagged fragment of a mask that Kalpas had once broken…

As for Prometheus, one of the key executors of the plan, she simply stared at you with her trademark dead-fish eyes, her expression clearly saying: ‘What are you doing here? Are you planning to exploit this AI again?’

You took all these items, these small tokens of trust and hope from your comrades, and stored them safely within the Lunar Base. You likewise left a gift of your own behind—a gift intended to be opened only after the victory was won.

Later, when there was no one else around, Elysia came skipping over to you.

She sat down very quietly beside you, her usual effervescent energy subdued. She linked her arm with yours, a simple, trusting gesture, and rested her small head on your shoulder.

The two of you didn’t speak. You just sat there in the deep silence, enjoying the final, precious moments before the arrival of the Herrscher of Finality.
