Arknights: I'm Pretty Strong With Minecraft — Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Fire
Following Truth and Gummy, Ivan handled the debris-strewn corridor. They reached the door of the classroom serving as their temporary shelter.
The door creaked open, revealing an empty room. Desks and chairs lay scattered in disarray, and a few smeared chalk drawings clung to the blackboard.
“Sister Zima?” Gummy called out, her voice trembling slightly. “Where are you?”
Before an answer could come, a faint commotion drifted down the hall. The distant sounds of frantic footsteps and panicked shouts rapidly grew louder.
“Oh no! Fire! Hurry, put it out!”
“Water! We need water!”
“Over there! The granary!”
Those words struck Ivan’s chest like a sledgehammer. His heart seized. Fragments of the original plotline surged to the forefront of his mind: Zima, acting alone, launching a desperate raid to seize the food supplies hoarded by the nobles.
“This part of the timeline… this should be when Zima goes after the nobles’ rations,” Ivan muttered under his breath.
But a second later, a chilling wave of unease washed over him. He shook his head sharply, his eyes narrowing. “No. Something is completely wrong.”
According to his memory, this diversionary fire was supposed to happen much earlier., after the Catastrophe struck and plunged the city into total anarchy, Zima and the others should have already found a route out of this sector. They shouldn’t still be lingering near the school.
Wait. Why did the Catastrophe stop? Why did that apocalyptic storm only strike once and then just vanish?
The thickening smoke and the rising crescendo of screams left him no time to untangle the mystery. Ivan snapped his head up, his gaze locking onto Truth and Gummy. Both girls wore expressions of mounting dread.
“You two, stay close to me!” Ivan ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument. “I know where Zima is!”
Truth shot him a piercing look, her blue eyes flashing with intense suspicion. “Wait! How could you possibly know where she went?”
Ivan didn’t bother explaining. He had already spun on his heel, sprinting straight toward the source of the chaos.
Truth stared at his retreating back. The acrid smell of burning wood reached her nose, accompanied by the desperate cries for help. She gritted her teeth and grabbed the anxious Ursus girl beside her.
“…Follow him!” Truth decided, pulling Gummy along as they chased after Ivan’s fading silhouette.
“Save me—!”
“It’s spreading! Find a way to put it out, now!”
Agonized shrieks mingled with the roar of the blaze. Pungent, suffocating smoke billowed through the halls. Scorching tongues of flame greedily devoured the wooden support beams and discarded fabrics, spreading at a terrifying, unnatural speed. The once-dilapidated granary sector had been transformed into a blistering inferno.
Ivan’s eyes narrowed against the heat. He quickly scanned the environment, his hands already moving in a blur. He reached into his inventory. To the untrained eye, his fingers danced like phantoms in the empty air—and then, with a solid thud, a wooden crafting table materialized out of nowhere, planting itself firmly onto the floor.
“He… what is he doing?!” Gummy gasped, her eyes widening into massive saucers at the beyond understanding sight.
Truth was equally baffled, her sharp mind failing to process the sudden appearance of the wooden block.
Ivan’s fingers flew across the invisible interface of the crafting table. A split second later, a pristine iron bucket materialized in his grasp. Without missing a beat, Ivan tapped into his Minecraft dimension, located a nearby pond, and casually scooped up a single bucket of water.
“Hey! Wait!” Truth yelled, watching Ivan march toward the fiercest wall of flames with nothing but a tiny, unassuming metal bucket. “A bucket that small is useless! The fire is too massive! We need to find something that actually works!”
Ivan didn’t even turn his head. He merely smirked, a silent thought crossing his mind.
‘Code physics, sweetheart. You have no idea.’
Without another word, he charged directly into the violent heart of the blaze.
Under the horrified, disbelieving stares of Truth and Gummy, Ivan tipped the iron bucket forward, pouring its meager contents directly onto the most intensely burning patch of floor.
What happened next completely shattered the laws of physics.
The single splash of water hit the ground and instantly erupted into a roaring, endless spring. Torrents of water surged outward, multiplying infinitely as it rushed in every direction.
“What’s going on?!”
“Water! Where did all this water come from?!”
The survivors who had been cowering in the corners or futilely tossing rags at the flames were suddenly swept off their feet. Burning debris and desperate students alike were caught in the massive, unexpected tidal wave. They yelped in shock as the surging current slammed them against the far walls, leaving them thoroughly drenched and completely disoriented.
The raging inferno let out a violent, hissing wail as the endless flood swallowed it whole. In a matter of seconds, the flames were entirely snuffed out.
The granary, which only moments ago had resembled a blistering purgatory, was now a serene, knee-deep indoor lake littered with floating debris.
Gummy and Truth stood frozen a few yards behind Ivan, completely petrified.
Gummy’s mouth hung open in a perfect ‘O’ shape.
Truth, renowned for her unwavering composure, had completely short-circuited. The heavy book she always carried slipped from her numb fingers, splashing into the water below. She didn’t even blink. She simply stared at Ivan’s back, her eyes wide with the sheer terror and awe usually reserved for looking at a monster.
She looked at him, and then at the slowly rippling surface of the impossible lake.
