Arknights: How Did I Actually Become the Doctor? — Chapter 11

July 22, 2026 Calculating...

Chapter 11: Base? I Don’t Know, I Just Use One-Click Rotation

“And so, Khaslana reincarnated 33,550,336 times, finally waiting for his Sledgehammer…”

With a child tucked under each arm, you spun absolute nonsense to coax the two girls into finishing their meals. The sheer, unadulterated charisma of a Pre-Civilization Incubus played the two children like fiddles. Beside you, Rosmontis was already diligently scribbling ‘The Doctor is a very important friend’ into her little notebook.

“Big brother, why did Khaslana wait for a Sledgehammer?” The little Ursus bear looked up, her brow furrowed in genuine confusion at your bootleg fairy tale. Something about the logic felt distinctly wrong, but her young mind just couldn’t put a finger on it.

You doubled over, laughter shaking your shoulders at her bewildered reaction. The highly strung nerves that had been pulled taut since the disaster finally began to slacken. Only now did the bloody scent from the grueling, death-defying trek out of Chernobog belatedly spread across your tongue, coating your mouth like a mouthful of salty rust.

“Because Sledgehammer uses a bat, and on this land, the text never mentioned trash cans, hahaha…” You took a long sip of water to wash down that metallic tang, cracking a joke that absolutely no one else in this universe could possibly understand.

Yet, as the laughter faded, a sudden, suffocating wave of loneliness washed over you.

Some looked at you with admiration, some with burning hatred, some maintained a wary distance, and others sought to use you as a tool. But across the board, there was one terrifying consensus: the moment you stepped onto the battlefield, any impossible predicament would simply crumble on its own.

Only you knew the pathetic truth. You were actually just a college student who happened to be exceptionally good at tower defense games.

‘There’s no going back.’

“Doctor,” a soft voice broke your spiraling thoughts as you felt a small hand tugging at the hem of your coat. You turned around to see Rosmontis looking up at you timidly. “Bat. Yours.”

You blinked, raising your gaze to see several thick steel bars floating in the air. They were being kneaded together by Rosmontis’s Originium Arts like soft playdough, violently twisted and fashioned into something vaguely resembling a heavy baseball bat.

You stared at the terrifying weapon. ‘…Little kitty, you are vastly overestimating my physical stats.’

However, thanks to her sudden interruption, the heavy sorrow from a moment ago dissipated into the cold night air. You casually tapped open your PRTS terminal. Kal’tsit had mentioned earlier that she granted you full administrative access to the landship’s permissions, just so you could take a look around…

A dense, overlapping swarm of pending system pop-ups instantly flooded your vision, nearly crashing the interface.

‘Old cat, did you literally not do a single thing while I was gone?!’The very next moment, the PRTS screen flickered, lighting up with a distinct, black-bordered prompt: [Switch to Prophet mode?]’Yes, yes, yes! Activate the cheat code, please! As a fragile college student, I absolutely cannot handle this level of corporate management!’

The screen dimmed, then flared back to life. This time, the interface shifted into the clean, highly gamified mode you were intimately familiar with.

“Doctor, you can’t rest yet.” Amiya’s digital avatar smiled brightly from the assistant’s position on the home screen.

You clicked into the RIIC base tab.

It was a complete, desolate blank.

‘Oh, I see.’Your cerebral cortex instantly smoothed out into a flat line.’So, old cat, while I was taking a nap in the sarcophagus, did you manage my island so efficiently that you literally tore down the base and sold it for scrap?!’

And here you were, actually feeling a shred of sympathy for how busy she must have been with all those administrative pop-ups. She hadn’t been managing them at all! She just let the notifications pile up into the thousands!

Fortunately, the stockpiled construction materials in the inventory hadn’t completely run dry yet. You had also racked up a massive amount of first-clear rewards from the hellish stages you pushed through along the way. After some rapid clicking, resource conversion, and picking and choosing, you managed to fully repair the first two floors of the facility.

As for the dormitories… there was absolutely no furniture.

‘Old cat, you didn’t actually make the elite operators sleep in cardboard boxes before I got here, did you?!’

By the time you finally looked up from the glowing screen, the sky outside the window was already beginning to brighten with the pale light of dawn. The little Feline and the little Ursus bear were sound asleep, their heads resting heavily against your lap.

“Doctor, did you not sleep all night?”

Amiya had just returned to the outpost, her tired eyes locking onto your wide-awake posture. Her expression immediately shifted to panic. “You’ve only just woken up from cryosleep; your body is at its absolute weakest!”

The heavy hood dipped suspiciously as you offered a terribly weak defense. “Would you believe me if I said time just sped up?”

Amiya’s long rabbit ears perked straight up, vibrating with sheer anger. “Doc—tor—!”

You winced. ‘I’m being framed! It really was a matter of game time flow! I only clicked to renovate two rooms!’

But no one in this world would ever believe you. How could you possibly explain it? That you possessed a terrifying superpower where time accelerated to a blur whenever you engaged in base management?

Following closely behind the young Cautus, Dr. Kal’tsit stepped into the room. Her anger clearly outweighed any lingering fear she had for you, and her face was set in her classic, absolute-zero ‘Kal’tsit sneer’.

“Regardless of whether you harbor grievances against me, you should at least follow my medical advice as a patient,” the 1.6-meter Feline stated, her healthy complexion radiating a terrifying, suffocating pressure that filled the entire room. “Doctor, you need to get some sleep. Do I need to remind you of the grueling seventy-two-hour emergency evacuation we just completed?”

She hissed. She definitely just hissed at you. You looked at her in absolute horror, entirely convinced that Mon3tr was going to manifest from her spine and use physical trauma to knock you out in the next three seconds.

Your gamer super-brain instantly issued a lethal threat warning and provided the single most perfect tactical solution available.

Under the intense gaze of the two women, the Doctor gave a slow, heavy nod, and then suddenly collapsed forward, dropping like a broken puppet that had its strings cleanly severed.

Without a microsecond of hesitation, Kal’tsit lunged forward, bending down to catch his falling body against her chest. Her fingers immediately locked onto his wrist. After feeling the weak but steady rhythm of his pulse, her rigid shoulders dropped. She instinctively breathed a quiet sigh of relief and gave a reassuring nod to the panicked Amiya standing nearby.

“It’s fine. He’s just asleep.”

Kal’tsit’s expression grew incredibly complex as her sharp eyes scanned the glowing system terminal still tightly clutched in the Doctor’s limp hand. The apocalyptic to-do list that had been an unmanageable mess just last night had been completely, flawlessly cleared.

She tapped into the operation logs. It was executed in his usual, terrifying style: cold, ruthlessly efficient, and driven by a strategic vision so clear it bordered on clairvoyance. In just one single night, he had systematically overhauled thirty percent of Rhodes Island’s departmental structures. He had pruned away almost all the useless bureaucratic branches, forcefully transforming the loose, struggling medical organization back into a lethal giant that perfectly executed the absolute will of its brain.

Even if this was just a preliminary prototype of his management, it was astonishing enough to leave her speechless.

And that was not even mentioning Rhodes Island’s foreign trade and diplomatic sectors. In a single night, countless encrypted messages from various global partners had flowed through his terminal. While firing off aggressive cooperation applications to dozens of major companies, he had decisively and ruthlessly issued instructions to terminate and not renew dozens of other stagnant, old partnerships.

Kal’tsit didn’t entirely understand the complex economic web he was weaving, but centuries of experience told her one thing: very soon, these new contracts would transform into a raging river flowing straight from the Garden of Hermes, flooding their vaults with countless LMD.

In just one night, the entirety of Rhodes Island felt as if it had been violently reborn.

Kal’tsit let out a long, quiet sigh. She adjusted her posture, eventually resting the Doctor’s hooded head gently on her lap, ensuring the fragile, pre-civilization human wouldn’t wake up with a stiff neck.

‘I have never truly seen through him.’Sensing her turbulent emotions, Mon3tr shifted beneath her skin, letting out a low, phantom hiss before falling completely silent.’He has deceived me, betrayed me, and also loved me like a father.’Her gaze softened just a fraction as she looked down at the sleeping man.’When he first created me… what exactly was he thinking?’

[Rhodes’s Note: The joke at the beginning is a reference to Honkai: Star Rail. The Trailblazer (often associated with the Kaslana lineage in Hoyoverse lore) uses a baseball bat as a weapon and has an infamous obsession with digging through trash cans.]
