Anime Crossover: Tokyo Reincarnation Game — Chapter 54
Chapter 54: The Main Heroine with a Faint Presence
“Why are you both looking at me like that?”
Noticing the incredulous stares from Asuna and Kotoko, Asagiri casually reeled in the chain connected to his Rope Dart. The metallic links clinked softly as he wrapped the slack around his forearm. He swung the blood-drenched weapon with one hand, tracing lazy, whistling circles in the air beside him as easily as a child playing with a yo-yo.
“Even without tapping into my Persona, dealing with an Evil Spirit of this caliber is a walk in the park.”
“The problem is that your physical strength is completely absurd…”
Before Asuna could finish her sentence, a furious, guttural roar echoed through the corridor. The Minotaur Evil Spirit tore its massive, burly frame out of the cratered wall, its four heavy hooves crashing back onto the floor tiles.
“Tch… is it really that hard to kill?” Asuna muttered, adjusting her grip.
“A resilient target is perfect. We can practice our coordination.” Kotoko spoke softly, raising a hand to cover her right prosthetic eye. Using only her left eye, she locked her vision onto the charging Minotaur Evil Spirit and activated her newly acquired skill: Curse Gaze.
A sudden wave of dizziness and fatigue washed over her the moment the skill took effect, a heavy toll drained directly from her mental reserves.
A second later, Kotoko’s deep purple left eye dimmed. A faint, twisting black mist seemed to bleed into her beautiful pupil.
The Minotaur Evil Spirit, which had just coiled its muscles to launch a brutal charge at Asagiri, suddenly staggered. Its momentum shattered as if the physical wind-up had been forcefully severed. The beast shook its massive, horned head violently, struggling just to keep its hooves planted on the ground.
Taking the opening, Asuna pushed off the floor. Standing over ten meters away, she gripped her Exorcist Longsword tightly. Her slender figure blurred into a streak of faint light, channeling every ounce of her explosive power into a high-speed thrust.
“Leader!”
“Got it.”
Asagiri, standing less than three meters from the dizzy beast, didn’t even raise his weapon. He simply watched the staggering monster and spoke a single word.
“Castling.”
The air warped. In the blink of an eye, Asagiri vanished from his spot, reappearing over ten meters away.
Replacing him at point-blank range was Asuna. She was already in mid-sprint, her Exorcist Longsword drawn back, carrying the full, terrifying momentum of her charge directly into the monster’s blind spot.
The Minotaur Evil Spirit caught the sudden blur of motion and tried to raise its arms to defend itself, but it was far too late. The cold, gleaming tip of the longsword magnified in the reflection of its pale, milky eyes.
“Is it over…?”
The blade pierced clean through the Minotaur’s skull. Asuna didn’t immediately withdraw her weapon. She kept her grip white-knuckled on the hilt, watching the massive, fur-covered body slowly dissolve into ash. Only when the creature had vanished without a single trace did she finally exhale, letting her sword fade into particles of light.
“That combo skill of yours is quite the trump card.” Kotoko adjusted her beret, offering Asagiri a sharp, appreciative smile. “Leader’s Castling maintains the original kinetic state of both parties during the swap. That essentially means a full-speed Violet instantly teleporting right into the enemy’s face, leaving them absolutely zero time to react.”
Asagiri chuckled, nodding in agreement. “True, but Violet is the only one who can pull off a maneuver like that with me. If I swapped with someone whose reaction speed and physical balance weren’t top-tier, suddenly teleporting mid-sprint would just make them trip over their own feet and crash into the enemy’s attack. It would be a creative way to commit suicide.”
Kotoko blinked her deep purple eyes, tilting her head with a deliberately playful, sickeningly sweet expression. “Hmm, but it doesn’t have to be an offensive combo, right? You can bind multiple targets. If I ever find myself in mortal peril, I’ll be counting on Leader to swap me to safety~”
“Haa…”
Standing near the fading ashes of the monster, Asuna looked down at her hands and let out a long breath. “I can feel it… after taking that thing down, my physical speed… it actually feels like it increased a little.”
Asagiri nodded with deadpan solemnity. “Good. Strive to become the Flash Asuna as soon as possible. Shiny Pokémon are something every trainer wants to collect.”
“Collect what…? What exactly do you take me for?”
Asagiri didn’t miss a beat. “Family!”
“Right. Family.” Asuna looked highly skeptical, but the corners of her lips betrayed a slight upward curve. She raised a hand, casually tucking a stray strand of flaxen hair behind her ear. “Even though Necro had the monsters rip out the camera wiring, we should still clear out before the security guards investigate the noise. We can debrief when we get back.”
“No, we’re not done here.” Asagiri stated flatly, his gaze shifting past them, staring down the dimly lit hallway. “Standing there watching for so long, and even eavesdropping on our entire conversation… aren’t you going to come out and say hello?”
Asuna and Kotoko frowned in confusion. Following his line of sight, they turned toward a shadowy corner near a water dispenser.
Standing there quietly was a girl. She wore a pristine white dress paired with a red jacket and a white beret.
“Eh? Since when…?” Kotoko muttered, her eye widening.
Neither she nor Asuna had sensed the girl’s presence. Not a footstep, not a breath, not a shift in the air.
Looking closely, the short-haired girl possessed an incredibly delicate, cute face. Her figure was slender but distinctly curvy—a sharp, obvious contrast to Kotoko’s completely flat chest.
Yet, there was something deeply strange about her aura. It was like a perfectly still lake, or a fawn resting silently in the brush. Her entire being exuded a quiet, serene emptiness. Even looking directly at her, Asuna and Kotoko felt as though the girl’s presence was aggressively faint, the kind of person you would immediately overlook in a slightly crowded room.
“Um… I’m sorry.”
Her voice was pleasant and entirely flat. There was no panic, no anxiety, and no fear of the blood-soaked weapons or the monster ash on the floor. She spoke at a steady, comfortable pace that almost forced the listener to relax.
“I didn’t intentionally try to eavesdrop on your conversation. I just felt it wasn’t a polite time to interrupt you earlier. I should introduce myself.”
She offered a small, polite bow.
“Hello. I am a first-year student at Private Toyonosaki Academy, Kato Megumi. It is nice to meet you.”
Asuna stared at the girl calling herself Kato Megumi, a deep sense of hesitation creeping into her chest.
…Wasn’t her reaction to all this a little too calm?
